Far Cry 6 is an open-world first person shooter co-developed by Ubisoft Reflections and Ubisoft Montreal. It takes some time after Far Cry 5, to which it is a successor. Far Cry 6 offers co-op and single player game play as well as arcade mode, which was featured in Far Cry 5.

The game is set on Aiteann Isle off of the coast of Scotland, briefly after the global nuclear war at the end of Far Cry 5 took place. Players either control Ewan "the Knight" or Cardinal, his ex-girlfriend. The character not chosen by the first player will serve as the co-op partner's player. Ewan, an ex-convict returns to Aiteann Isle after surviving a nuclear blast in Glasgow. In Aiteann, Ewan receives shelter from Cardinal, an avid hunter, who is displeased with the burden refugees from the mainland have placed on the island, but is sympathetic to them. The two engage in the local civil war between the Smugglers, an international mob that seeks to conquer the island and the Locals, a militia of the islands residents.

Both the Locals and the Smugglers possess a roughly equal amount of territory, with the Locals having much greater manpower and the Smugglers being much better armed. Players can choose either faction to fight for.

Setting

Aiteann Isle, meaning Juniper Isle, is a fictional isle in the Irish Sea. The isle's environment is largely cold water beaches, farmland, rocky mountains, and deciduous forest. For a period of game play spanning several story missions during the winter the isle is covered with snow and ice.

The island's architecture is very rustic with only one large town, Old Port, the others being small hamlets. Celtic buildings and pagan structures are scattered throughout the countryside. Old Port is the home of the islands only pre-war military installation, a Royal Navy Base whose occupants have been routed and the base itself occupied by the Smugglers.

The amount of time since the events of Far Cry 5 is unclear. It is presumably set well before Far Cry: New Dawn. Ewan mentions having spent weeks in a government refugee camp prior to its dissolution and traveling across Scotland by foot.
