Family Tunes, Again is a 2017 sequel-series to the popular 1978-82 sitcom, Family Tunes. The series is created by Diane Liston, in association with Warner Horizon Television. Reprising her role, Paige Turco stars as Jenny, a middle-aged single mother who struggles to find the balance between being a mother and a lawyer. Her situation quickly worsens when she learns that her 23-year old daughter is pregnant. Carrie, her brother, lives with her after his messy divorce. Her best-friend, Sabrina, graciously moves in to help.[1]

When Jenny finds out that her daughter is pregnant and that she will have to work overtime, Sabrina decides to help her out and moves in with her 2 daughters. Tanya helps Sabrina move into the house. Meanwhile, Luke and Sera hit it off, eventually becoming friends. Carrie's divorce is finalized, leaving him depressed. However, he realizes that he has a lot to be thankful for and that he will never have to face anything alone.
2 2 "Halloween" December 15, 2017
Sabrina reunites with Samuel when he returns to the household for the weekend. She immediately falls in love with him once again, but soon learns that he is engaged. Meanwhile, Melissa and Andre visit a birthing class with Jenny tagging along while Luke and Sera go to a fairly mild Halloween party.
3 3 "Daily Struggles" December 15, 2017
As scripting begins on Sabrina's new television pilot, she finds herself struggling to write a compelling story based on the plot. Meanwhile, Jenny tries to reconnect with her children after being fired from her job. Andre seeks Carrie's help as he is planning to propose to Melissa.
4 4 "A Pleasant Nightmare" December 15, 2017
After Luke has an unpleasant nightmare, he spends all his time in his room while Jenny tries to calm him down. Samuel brings his fiancee to the house where it is revealed that she is Vanessa, Luke's Math teacher. After witnessing their endless fights, Sabrina is forced to break them up. Meanwhile, Isabelle also comes home for the weekend and Sera has to share a bedroom with her. Melissa's water breaks, causing everyone to become panicked and stressed.
5 5 "Ready or Not" December 15, 2017
Melissa goes into labor where she finds out that she's going to have twins which makes Andre nervous as he feels unprepared. The whole family rushes to the hospital to witness the birth, except for Tanya as she is stuck in San Francisco due to the fact that she's hosting a game show. One contestant is Kimmy Gibbler (Played by Andrea Barber). Meanwhile, Isabelle meets her father for the first time (Played by Bradley Whitford).
6 6 "Eventful Endings" December 15, 2017
Luke is unprepared for a big exam and is tempted to cheat. Sera’s friend tries smoking, and she forces Sera to smoke as well. Meanwhile, Jenny's ex-friend, Bonnie (Played by Bianca Kajlich), visits her to make amends for an incident that happened 20 years ago. Melissa is shocked when Andre proposes to her, but still says "yes". Isabelle finally decides to no longer hide her true self and comes out as Bisexual to her family, receiving mixed reactions. After hearing this, Sabrina announces a secret that she's been keeping; she's dating her ex-husband, Daniel.

Production

Casting

Turco, Isaac and Meyer all reprise their roles from the previous shows as series regulars, with Colin Firth and Morgan Fairchild occasionally making appearances. The other main roles went to Ty Simpkins, Bridgit Mendler, Malina Weissman and Drake Bell as Luke, Melissa, Sera and Andre, respectively. On January 2, 2018, it was announced that Bailee Madison, who played Isabelle for 3 episodes, had been upgraded to a series regular for the second season.[4]

Development

The series was announced on May 22, 2017. It is filmed at Warner Brothers Studios on Stage 21, starting on July 10th and ending on October 2nd. Post-production took place during October and November 2017.

It was announced before the release of the show that Olesya Rulin would star in the second season, if the show were to be renewed.

On December 24, 2017, Netflix announced that the series would return for a second season. The second season will be split into two parts, each part containing ten episodes for a total of 20 episodes. Production began on March 5, 2018 and concluded on September 7. It was confirmed on April 20, that the first-half of the season would release on July 13, 2018.
