Soligaia

Political map of Soligaia today.

Soligaia is the northwestern continent of Qirsyllviar, and the western half of the larger continent known as Geminos.

Sovereign States[]

United Queendom of Albion[]

The United Queendom of Albion, officially known as the United Queendom of High Albion, is the dominant nation on the Albinese Isles, taking up the entirety of the Albin Region and part of the Caledor Region, of the Island of High Albion in southeast Soligaia. On High Albion, Albion borders Camelot to the south and Caledonia to the northeast. Surrounded by Caledonia are the small provinces of Lothian in the north and Hogdar in the south, both exclave from Albion's contiguous territory. Albion borders Mhrydain to the south & Caledonia to the east on the main island, Ghlastír to the southeast on the island f the same name. In the Manx Sea it shares maritime borders with Mannin and Ghlastír. Across the Albinese Channel to the west it shares maritime borders with Gallia.

Albion whole

The whole of the Albinese Empire, spanning across four continents.

Albion also hold's sovereignty over the Uther Islands southwest of Aquilonis, the Viceroyalty of Angevin, which controls great swaths of Wudfyrgen, the northeastern subcontinent of Nekcroz. Through Angevin, Albion also once controlled what is now the Serene Kingdom & Republic of Arcadia, which seceded from the kingdom via the Arcadian War for Independence. Albion also holds sovereignty over the Commonwealth of Edwardia in northwestern Tarak. It also holds the Principality of Mannin as a suzerainty. Because of the extensive lands that Albion controls, Albion is sometimes known as the Albinese Empire, even though the head of state isn't titled as such.

Albion claims the lands ruled by Mhrydain as part of its sovereign territory as the ancestral homelands of Arthurine Pendragon, but all attempts to push that claim, either though reconquest or political intrigue, have been met with failure.

Government & Politics[]

Albion is currently ruled by the House of Tyrell of the matriarchal Pendragon dynasty. The Queen of Albion is also titled the Queen of Angevin and the Empress of Edwardia. The royal family and the commonfolk are protected and policed by the Knights of the Round Table.

History[]

The forerunner of the modern United Queendom of Albion is the Queendom of Camelot.

Camelot was founded by Arthurine Pendragon amidst a period of constant chaos, war, and civil upheaval that tore the Island of High Albion apart for roughly five centuries following the collapse of the Second Solarii Empire, known today as the Petty Kingdoms Period of High Albion (c. 3332 – c. 3845PCZ).

Camelot began when Arthurine united several thegns, ealdormen & landowners though a display of diplomacy and chivalry in a period of constant war, in opposition to what was then the Kingdom of Waeldreor, ruled by the tyrannical warlord known to history as Vortigern the Cruel. Vortigern, an uncle of Arthur's, had ambitions in uniting the island through a combination of conquest and dark sorcery, and long kept the people in line through fear of his cruelty.

Camelot (Albion)

Camelot under Arthurine Pendragon

At sixteen years of age, Arthurine found a magical Zedylrian steel sword known as Excalibur embedded in a boulder and freed it from its resting place. Excalibur had been stuck in that rock since the end of the Empire of Rityria centuries before, and many viewed this as a sign of change.

In revolt of her uncle's rule, several thegns, ealdormen and commonfolk gathered around him and declared her their new queen. Not long after Arthurine was crowned, she challenged and struck down the tyrannical king.

Vortigern's death at the hands of Arthurine caused his kingdom to fall apart in a few weeks, and Arthurine, through a combination of chivalry, virtue, and charisma, salvaged the land and brought several thegns together to form what became the Queendom of Camelot.

Modern Albion was formed at the close of the Petty Kingdoms Period of High Albion, as a successor state of Camelot.

Even before the death of King Vortigern the Cruel and his despotic Kingdom of Waeldreor, High Albion was divided into six different kingdoms. Following Vortigern's death, said kingdoms were: Camelot Lælian, Angeltwicce, Supland, Getwisan & Lybcorn.

Most of these kingdoms were content with the status quo, and while some monarchs talked about the possibility of uniting the island, none were truly serious and the status quo remained, even while some wars happened for one reason for another. Things changed in the 3500's with the Vikingr Invasions of High Albion. These invaders from the north, mostly Ægte & Kraftør, disrupted the status quo and for two hundred years ruled parts of the northern side of High Albion, mostly by installing one of their own as king or installing puppet rulers.

Eventually, three of these kingdoms, Camelot, Lælian & Angeltwicce, united under a single monarchy that became known as the United Queendom of Albion when the latter two abdicated their lands and titles to Ælfgardia the Great (aka Ælfgardia III). With the power to take the fight to the invaders from the north, after another several years of warfare against the Ægte & Kraftør and their puppet rulers, Albion conquered or politically united with seven more of the other kingdoms, mostly ending the wars.

Kingdom of Ardeal[]

The Kingdom of Ardeal, also known as the Sovereign Realm of Vampires, is a landlocked vampire-ruled monarchical nation in central-north Soligaia. It borders the dwarven state of Karphijorc to the extreme northwest, Władca to the north and east, Velikost to the extreme southeast, the High Elf kingdom of Glajiltaris to the south, and the neutral Carpi Corridor to the west, separating it from Malŭkiya.

Currently ruled by House Corvinus of the Trandafir dynasty (one of several noble houses that are cadet branches of the now extinct House Trandafir), and one of the oldest nations on Soligaia, it is what remains of the former Amurgine Empire, a society ruled and dominated by vampires.

While home to a moderate fraction of humans and other races, it remains a vampire-ruled nation, and the sole fully sovereign vampire-ruled nation left on Qirsyllviar.

Given the longevity of vampires in general, the monarchs of Ardeal traditionally don't rule for very long. Traditionally, they abdicate the throne to the heir apparent – termed the Twlight Prince(ss) – after training and educating them until he or she is ready to take over; usually ruling for roughly forty-five years on average. However, despite the tradition, this is not always the done, as (unexpected deaths/assassinations aside) some kings and queens become too drunk on their power to let go of it before they die; some even abdicate just to become the power behind the throne without even letting go of real power despite officially retiring.

The monarchs of Ardeal also hold the title of Emperor/Empress of the Realm of Vampires. This title denotes the ruler of the vampire race in its entirety, regardless of culture or ethnicity – that said, the title is mostly ceremonial with no actual power. Whether the rest of the race worldwide recognizes it or not is an individual and personal choice. Additionally, the title is not directly inheritable; it can only granted by the Zodje of the Vampiric Pantheon. The Zodje can refuse to grant the title if he/she believes the incumbent ruler of Ardeal is unworthy of it, which has happened several times throughout the history of the title's existence.

Ardeal is one of only a few countries on Qirsyllviar where vampires freely live in plain sight without fear of persecution from the public. There are similar gray areas around the world, but they're a rarity. As the only remaining vampire-ruled country on Qirsyllviar, Ardeal is a cultural melting pot, with vampires from all over the world immigrating to this haven, resulting in a unique and inclusive cultural identity comparable to New Albion in Nekcroz. This has long-since resulted in a language shift that, for the ease of communication, saw the adoption of Albinese as the dominantly-spoken language of Ardeal, though other languages remain predominant as lingua franca.

History[]

The former Amurgine Empire collapsed into several states due to a war of succession amidst invasion from southern tribes. One such state was the Principality of Trandafir, ruling from the town of Gal. The House of Trandafir was succeeded by the House of Ardeal by marriage following the conquest and vassalage of several territories surrounding Gal, including the old capital of Argintar. With the power vacuum filled at last, the then head of House Ardeal was granted the crown by the Zodje of the time; thus, the Kingdom of Ardeal was born.

Politics & Governance[]

Ardeal is a semi-constitutional monarchy. The top of the Ardealian hierarchy is the monarch, but the legislative body is the Senate, headed by the king and the chancellor. The chancellor presides over the senate when the king isn't present, but cedes that responsibility to the monarch when the latter attends senate sessions. Alternatively, the monarch can delegate their authority to the Chancellor when they attend sessions, yet retains the authority to step in if they feel it necessary.

The senate chamber sits as many as five hundred senators, but the actually number of senators serving contemporaneously is constantly fluctuating for a multitude of reasons (the senate had about four hundred in total early in the reign of Adelaide III, and that was only after many non-vampire senators returned to their seats after the the overthrow of Gustav IX). Some seats, mainly the ones held by the nobility, are inherited, while others, mainly the ones held by commoners, are electoral.

The king's privy council are a series of ministers, the treasurer, the chancellor, the voivode (the supreme commander of the armies beneath the monarch), and a member of the clergy.

The monarch generally is more powerful than the Senate, but certain aspects of the administration require cooperation. The monarch has the absolute authority to issue proclamations and edicts so long as they don't affect, change or go against the law. Changes to the law, or the addition of new ones, require approval by the senate, which are then signed and sealed into law by the monarch. However, the monarch has absolute veto power and the Senate can't overturn it.

Other powers the monarch possesses is the right to raise and lower taxes (often in consultation with the treasury, but this is only for general taxes paid by the populace; trade tariffs and similar taxes require ratification by the Senate), declare war, command the army, negotiate deals and treaties with nongovernmental organizations and other nations, grant tax exemptions to merchants, appoint knights and promote military officers; bestow, revoke and distribute noble titles,

The chancellor presides over the Senate in place of the monarch in most sessions (as the monarch's presence isn't required for the most part) and can veto any motion or resolution if passed by less than a 2/3 majority. Majority or unanimous votes can only be vetoed by the monarch. The monarch can also overrule a veto.

The same somewhat holds true for diplomacy in certain aspects. The monarch has sole authority to interact with foreign dignitaries and negotiate treaties (unless delegated to diplomats/ambassadors), but official ratification of treaties are done by the senate.

Political Parties[]
  • Coronas: Loyalists of the royal family, who seek to empower and maintain the royal family's position as the supreme power of Ardeal. Since the enthronement of Adelaide III, they are led primarily by House Ragdorf, whom supplanted the Gustav-loyalist House Sanglant.
  • Kyrstalists: Nobility-empowerment faction led by the eponymous House Krystal.
  • Liberalists: seek to limit the power of the monarchy to reshape the government into a democratic crowned republic
  • Bloodbornes: vampire supremacists. They held significant power and influence during the riegn of Gustav IX, but have since fallen into minority with the reign of Adelaide III.
  • Moderates: neutral senators. Swaying their support is often the most crucial for any party to get their agendas passed.

House Corvinus[]

The Trandafir dynasty has ruled Ardeal – and it's predacessor, the Principality of Trandafir – for nearly seven centuries.

House Corvinus, a distant branch of the Trandafir dynasty of Gallique origin, is the current ruling house of Ardeal. House Corvinus came to power five hundred years before present day, when a nobleman from Gallia distantly related to the Trandafir dynasty, Angélique Corvinus, usurped the throne after Boris V of House Osirian died without an heir. With no close living relatives left, courtesy of a blood feud during the reign of Boris V’s father, House Osirian was rendered extinct and a claimant from House Cazban, the dynasty’s closest cadet branch in Ardeal, was supposed to become king. However, before a king could be chosen from eligible candidates within the house, Angélique brought his whole family from Gallia, marched into the capital with a small army at his back, and declared himself king. While his claim to the throne was backed by his family, the zodje and a several noble houses to whom he held strong ties, it was considered a coup d’état by many others. Newly-crowned Angélique I spent the following year fighting a civil war to solidify his authority, subduing anyone who questioned his rule. House Corvinus has ruled Ardeal ever since.

Political divisions[]

While Ardeal has a system of nobility that swears fealty to the monarch like the rest of the feudal world, and nobles from the rank of Count up have the right to raise small armies to a certain extant, the kingdom is not divided between noble lords like a traditional feudal system. Instead, Ardeal is a unitary state divided into ten prefectures, each centered around major political, economic and cultural centers of Ardeal, which serve as their capitals. Each is administered by a Prefect, which is appointed at the sole discretion of the monarch, which may or may not be by merit. The exception to this is the El'Ayor Prefecture, centered around the royal capital, Argintar, which, while having an appointed prefect, is directly administered by the monarch. The prefects generally have a great deal of autonomy to run their prefectures and levy prefectural taxes at their own discretion without royal input, but remain subject to edicts, decrees and proclamations issued by the monarch and/or the senate.

Kingdom of Ægtjord[]

The Kingdom of Ægtjord (ᛇᚷᛏᛡᛟᚱᛞ) is a monarchical nation occupying the Helte peninsula, a trident-like peninsula which juts into the Handel Sea, and several islands in central-eastern Soligaia. It solely borders Starkland to the west by land.

Ruled by House Brændende of the Helligstrøm dynasty, of the Ægte subgroup of the Sjálfvirkir, it is the only Sjálfvirk state to fully embrace Septifidelity.

Kingdom of Caledonia[]

The Kingdom of Caledonia is a monarchical nation on western side of the Island of High Albion in the Albinese Isles in southeastern Soligaia, occupying the entirety of the northern Caledonii Peninsula, many outlying islands off the peninsula, and part of the southern Epidii Peninsula, both of which form the Alban Region. It solely borders the United Kingdom of Albion to the west.

Currently ruled by the House of Alpin, Caledonia was originally founded as a union of tribes under the rule of the Caledonii dynasty, and eventually expanded to include the whole of the two eastern peninsulas. Caledonia was the only country to resist the expansion of the now-extinct Kingdom of Waeldreor, albeit at the cost of some of its western territory and most of the southern peninsula. When Albion came to be and started expanding eastward, Caledonia most often managed to stave off the threat of invasion though careful diplomacy. Whenever diplomacy failed and the two countries went to war, Caledonia still managed to fend off the invasions and preserve its territorial integrity.

Principality of Corraine[]

The Principality of Corraine is a in southern Soligaia, bordering Zachtland to the north, Gëllenbourge to the west, and Gallia to the south.

Once the more powerful Kingdom of Corraine, and a powerful rival of Starkland and Gallia, it was a dominant nation in the south that orignally established what is now Zachtland's colonial empire. The Corrainese Civil War that erupted amidst Corraine's involvement in the Nine Years' War (4432 – 4441PCZ) broke the nation to bits, resulting on the loss of the regions that compirsed what is now Zachtland and Gëllenbourge. It managed to retain its sovereignty, but lost it's capital to Zachtland and was forced to cede its overseas empire to them as part of the peace treaties that ended the wars. Corraine has since gone into relative seclusion.

Republic of Došljselo[]

The Republic of Došljselo is the coastal sovereign nation-state of the Došljak people in northeastern Soligaia. It borders Skajvend to the west and Glajiltaris to the east.

Principality of Erdigune[]

The Principality of Erdigune is an small monarchical nation in southern Soligaia. It borders the Meridiña to the west and Gallia to the east.

Holy Papal Empire of Sanct'cora[]

The Holy Papal Empire of Sanct'cora, also known as the State of the Church, is a holy state in western Soligaia, occupying swaths of territory in the northeastern side of the Latium Peninsula, a chunk of land at the end of the peninsula (called the Gladius Region) that's exclave from the main territory, courtesy of Solaria, a small swath on the Island of Dell'ovest across the Strait of St. Josephus, known as the Sanctus Region, and far to the west is its easternmost territory, the Catholica Region.

On the mainland, the main contiguous regions solely borders the Solarii Empire to the east, the Gladius Region borders contiguous Solaria to the east and shares maritime borders the Solarii Province of North Trinacria across the Strait of Sextus just off the peninsula to the south. The Catholica Region borders the Spiaggia Region of Spiaggia & Litore to the north, Starkland to the east, Solaria to the south, and the Piegare Region of Spiaggia & Litore to the southwest. On Dell'ovest, the Sanctus Region borders Tesoreria and Firenze to the north and Borgia to the west.

Sanct'cora is a state ruled directly by the Pope of the Synkratic Church, the government of the Synkratic denomination, from the City of Sanct'cora, one of the holy centers of Septifidelity. Modern Sanct'cora was founded as a breakaway state while Solaria was busy dealing with the ill-fated Skajtar War of Liberation (c. 3954 – c. 3956PCZ) during the latter stages of the Solarii Conquest of Latium (c. 3531 – c. 3555PCZ). Septifidelity had been the dominant religion of the Latium Peninsula and beyond since before the era of Solaria; but, some years after Solaria came to power, it rejected the Senate's idea of limiting the power of the church and separating the office from that of the head of state, preferring to place sole power in the head of state. As as result of the Sanct'coran War (c. 3955 – c. 3877PCZ), the Papacy retained its religious authority over the church. Because the Imperial Solarii Army was too militarily exhausted from recent war with Starkland, after two years of war, Solaria reluctantly let it go.

Grand Duchy of Firenze[]

The Grand Duchy of Firenze is a monarchical nation on the northeastern region of the Island of Dell'ovest in western Soligaia. It borders Tesoreria to the west, and the Sanctus Region of Sanct'cora to the south.

Originally a city-state of the same name, it managed to grow some ways until in encompassed a modest but significant portion of the island, controlling at least five cities and several dozens of towns and villages.

Ruled by the House of Medici, Firenze is a major center of trade in the region.

Empire of Gallia[]

The Empire of Gallia, sometimes known as the Gallique Empire, sometimes locally called Gaul, and formerly called the Gaulish Empire, is a large monarchical nation in southern Soligaia.

Gallia whole

The whole of the Gallique Empire today.

It borders Corraine and Gëllenbourge to the northeast, Starkland to the north, Schwyz and the contiguous body of Solaria to the northwest, Meridiña and Erdigune to the west. Via the Albinese Channel it shares maritime borders with Albion.

Gallia also holds sovereignty over the Viceroyalty of Neufpays in northern Nekcroz, parts of which it conquered from Meridiña and Albion during the Nine Years War (4432 – 4441PCZ).

Currently under the rule of House Glaçons of the Valois dynasty, Gallia is one of the five Great Powers of Soligaia, along with Solaria, Starkland, Władca and Merzlota.

History[]

An unnatural creation, the Gallique Empire was first founded some three thousand years ago as the Empire of Gaul by Vercingetorix the Great of the Arverni dynasty following total victory in the Great Gaulish War (c. 976 – c. 1001PCZ). After further victory against other Gallique tribes/nations, Vercingetorix established an empire that would stand for many generations.

It wasn't until after the Revolution of 1336 that toppled the Helvetii dynasty (the second recorded dynasty of Gallia) and the rise Segusiavi dynasty (the third recorded dynasty) under Emperor Orgetorix I, that the empire became to be known as the Gallia.

One thousand years ago, under the Seine dynasty (the fifth recorded dynasty of Gallia), the empire reached its max expansion in Soligaia, covering southern Starkland to central Meridiña, but much of these territories were lost following periods of revolt and expansionism by other powers, including rising Meridiña, roughly five hundred years before today.

From 4468 – 4515PCZ, Gallia entered a republican period when the monarchy was overthrown and abolished as a result of the Gallien Revolution, stemming from oppressive governance and bankruptcy during and after Gallien intervention in the Arcadian War for Independence. After seven years of civil war between the republicans and the imperial loyalists, the latter was defeated. The imperial family fled into exile in Starkland while the then-emperor, Lothaire V (Lothaire Guillaume-Ludovic de la Gloire) was executed by guillotine.

While the Gallien Republic endured for the better part of fifty years under good leadership, in the last decade of its tenure the new leadership was poorly managed. Widespread famine and economic collapse led to increased poverty and dissatisfaction with the government. In 4515PCZ, renewed revolts caused Gallia to collapse and implode in on itself, breaking into at least seven states of varying governing types; three kingdoms and four types of republics. This period of division endured until 4526PCZ, when the kingdom ruled by House Glaçons – a cadet branch House Gloire, the former ruling house of Gallia – launched a campaign of conquest with Meridiño aide. Under the leadership of King James Alfred-Franck de la Glaçons, the kingdom reconquered Gallia under the imperial banner of the Valois dynasty, culminating in the "Valois Restoration" with the reunification of Gallia under House Glaçons as the new royal house of Gallia; and King James was coronated as Emperor James II.

Alain Eric-Calixte de la Gloire (self-styled Emperor Alain I), the grandson of Emperor Lothaire V and the new head of House Gloire, tried to reinstate himself as the rightful ruler of Gallia by right of blood though politics and then force of arms when that failed, but was defeated and reduced to the title of Grand Duke.

Grand Duchy of Gëllenbourge[]

Gëllenbourge is a landlocked monarchical state in central Soligaia. It borders Starkland to the north, Zachtland to the east, Corraine to the southeast and Gallia to the south.

Like Zachtland was once the northern provinces of Corraine, Gëllenbourge was once the western ones. Gëllenbourge won its independence from Corraine as a result of the peace treaties that ended both the Corrainese Civil War and the Nine Years' War.

Kingdom of Glajiltaris[]

The Kingdom of Glajiltaris is an High Elf elective monarchical nation in central Soligaia. It borders Velikost to the east, its fellow high elven neighbor, Ruljotris, to the southeast, the Spiaggia Region of Spiaggia & Litore to the extreme south, Skajvend and Došljselo to the southwest, Lazurselo and the neutral Ifaisteio Mountains to the west, and Malŭkiya, Ardeal and the Carpi Corridor to the north.

A kingdom forged by magic rather than steel, one of only a few, Glajiltaris hosts some of the most prestigious schools of magic in the world.

United Kingdom of Ghlastír[]

The United Kingdom of Ghlastír, also known as the Kingdoms of the Gaeilge Confederation, is a confederated monarchical nation on the Island of Ghlastír, the southern island of the Albian Isles. It solely borders Albion to the north.

Ghlastír was originally ten small individual kingdoms struggling for dominance over the island; Dyflin, Laigin, Ulaidh, Mhumhain, Connacht, Osraige, Breifne, Airgialla, Tír Chonaill and Mide. When the United Kingdom of Albion invaded, seceral of the kingdoms that hadn't yet been conquered banded together to resist the foreign invasion, eventually forming into the current ruling state.

Despite a constant struggle to maintain unity, the Kingdoms of the Gaeilge Confederation, ruled primarily by the Uí Néill dynasty, has so far been able to reclaim its formerly lost lands, fully expelling Albinese rule from the island.

Chiefdom of Hy-Brasil[]

Kingdom of Ísjökull[]

The Kingdom of Ísjökull (ᛁᛋᛡᚯᚴᚢᛚᛚ) is a monarchical island nation occupying the island of the same name in the southern waters of the Great Meadhan Sea between Soligaia and Aquilonis, right adjacent southeast of the Odin Islands. Legends say that Ísjökull was the southeastern peninsula of the Ásgarður before the latter was cast into into the sky, leaving Ísjökull behind when it broke from the whole and fell back into the sea, and the islands northwest of the island are believed to be the remains of Ásgarður's underbelly that didn't get sent into the sky with it.

Currently ruled by the House of Glucksburg, it is physically isolated and shares no borders, land or maritime, with any nation.

Kingdom of Jóiazão[]

The Kingdom of Jóiazão is a monarchical nation on the edge of southwestern Soligaia. It borders Meridiña to the north and west. It also holds sovereignty over Matagal in Nekcroz and Ilhas de Grama and Illhas Selvagens in Maritymir, the latter of which is contested territory with Xotil and Soynaltiar.

Jóiazão whole

Jóiazão and its overseas territories

Jóiazão is a relatively recent nation, being roughly seven hundred years old. Beginning under the Lusitani dynasty as a union of nations/tribes resisting expansion from Meridiña. After many years of back and forth warfare and peace, Jóiazão established itself permanently in the region. Its sovereignty has only been interrupted once, when it spent a little more than a century (c. 3967 – c. 4071PCZ) under Meridiño occupation before rising up and declaring independence one more.

Currently ruled by the Afonsine dynasty, it is constantly at odds with Meridiña, and has had its sovereignty threatened more than once.

Czardom of Karphijorc[]

The Czardom of Karphijorc is a mountainous monarchical dwarven nation, occupying the Karphijian mountain range of northern Soligaia. Said mountain range is home to at least five active volcanoes and the three tallest mountains in Soligaia; among them Mount Kargalderon, the tallest mountain in Soligaia. The nation borders Władca to the south, Ardeal to the extreme southwest, and the Világrész region of Magyarhaza to the west. Karphijorc was originally formed as one of several breakaway states of the former dwarf-ruled Jaljirian Empire following the latter's collapse during the Jaljirian Civil War. Karphijorc emerged as the dominant state and eventually reunited most of the lands of the former empire, save for most of the southern regions, which were conquered by the Empire of Marzovia, the forerunner state of the Empire of Władca. Karphijorc has been dealing with Najmocak invasions into the mountains since the time of the Marzovian Empire and it's successor state.

United Empire of Keltikos[]

The United Empire of Keltikos (Κελτικος) – also known as the Makedonoi Hegemonic Empire of Keltikos, or simply the Kelt Empire – is a hegemonic confederated monarchical state made up of the city-states of the Kelt peninsula in northwestern Soligaia, ruled primarily by Makedonia. It shares maritime borders with the Trojan Empire to the north and Rhodes to the extreme northwest. On land it borders Malŭkiya to the extreme northeast, Lazurselo and the neutral Ifaisteio Mountains to the east, and Spaggia & Litore to the extreme southeast.

Modern Keltikos was once the the Empire of Akhaia before the Kelt Revolution (c. 3945 – 3950PCZ). During the revolution, Akhaia broke up into several states that immediately began fighting for land and power. When Solaria invaded the lands of the former empire the states formed a political union known as the Amyntikos League (Αμυντικος Λευγη) – which was more of a defensive pact than a new state – to combat Solaria's invasion of the peninsula when they took advantage of the chaos when the empire fell apart in revolution. Despite the merge to fight their common enemy, the League was unable to resist the might of Solaria and fell to the Solarii Empire.

Eventually, wars back home forced Solaria to pull its army out of the peninsula, giving the city-states an opportunity to regain independence from Solaria. Solaria was too exhausted of manpower following the wars to attempt to reconquer the peninsula, to they let them be.

Keltikos divisions

The city-states of Keltikos

While initially a unified cause to throw off Solarii rule, it wasn't long before the coalition collapsed as the reemergent city-states began fighting each other for influence. The eventual cooling of tensions led to the founding of various alliances of Leagues, which often didn't last long before coming apart.

A famous example is the League of Lefteria (Λευγη του Λευτερια/Levgi tou Lefteria) – aka the Lefterian League. The last league to form was the Kelt League (Κελτ Λευγα)under the leadership of Makedonia, which proved much more centralized than its predacessors. It wasn't long before the city-states of the peninsula became more unified with Makedonia at the helm.

As an elective hegemonic confederated monarchy, the Basileus ton Basileon, the hegemon of the empire, is chosen from one of the imperial family of Makedonia when the incumbent ruler dies.

Each city-state of the empire has its own government and ruler with varying titles; ranging from hereditary monarchies, like Makedonia, to elective direct republics, like Attiki.

The legislative capital of the empire is the city of Keltikos itself, which is located on the southeasternmost island of Naxos territory, but executive capital is Pella, the capital of Makedonia. Also, each city-state has its own legislative measures and has a great deal of autonomy to rule itself.

Keltikos is tormented by religious strife to this day. Adherents of the old pantheon struggle to keep it alive, maintinting its dominance mostly on the island of Kriti and a few smaller communities on the mainland, while two denominations of Septifedelity wrestle for dominance over the people of the mainland. As the birthplace of modern Synkratism, the Church once dominated the nation but the arrival of the Vozrod Orthodoxy has since caused a split between the people and within the nation. Synkratism maintains its dominance in the outlying islands, Lakonia and most of the western coast of the country from the city of Christmis (Χριςτμισ), once the center of Synkratic power, while Vozrodism dominants most of the mainland from the city of Gainos (Γαηνοσ).

The Sacred City of Kitezh (ⰍⰋⰕⰅⰆ), the birthplace and original center of Septifidelity, is a theocratic city-state and the center of the Northern Vozrod Church in northeastern Soligaia. The state consists of the city itself and several outlying villages and towns, in northwestern Soligaia, enclaved on all sides by the Empire of Merzlota. The city and it's outlying settlements lie in a geothermic valley, traditionally called Teplovaya Dolina (ⰕⰅⰒⰎⰑⰂⰀⰡ ⰄⰑⰎⰋⰐⰀ), kept warm, almost tropical, by volcanic activity in the surrounding mountain range.

History[]

In 267ACZ, Kitezh was buried in an avalanche of ice, rock and snow triggered by a massive earthquake following volcanic eruptions, in a catastrophic event known as the Kitezh Cataclysm.

In 1709PCZ, almost two thousand years after the disaster, Kitezh was rediscovered and excavated out of the ice, snow and frozen mud. News of its rediscovery spread across the continent and the city was repopulated and restored within a few decades, as well as made a center of Septifidelic faith once again; and the rediscovery of long-lost Septifidelic artifacts and scriptures only increased the fervor.

The rediscovery of long-forgotten words from ancient scriptures also caused a rift between the main Synkratic Church and the Septifideles of Kitezh, as the latter began incorprating the long-lost ancient ways into their practices, to the ire of the Synkratic Church.

Near the end of the 1900's PCZ, following the Synkratic-Vozrod Schism, Kitezh was made the home for the central authority of the Vozrod Church in the aftermath of the schism as surrounding kingdoms willingly embraced Vozrodism. A non-soveriegn theocratic state within the then Kingdom of Mortyaza (ⰏⰑⰓⰕⰡⰈⰀ) was formed in the process, even while the Synkratic Church initiated the ill-fated Northern Crusade to restore Synkratic dominance in the north.

Around the same time as the rise of Al-Haqiqa faith in Aquilonis, Kitezh became independent following the collapse of Mortyaza. In an effort to quell the anarchy gripping the lands former kingdom, as well as grab some power, the Sacred City of Kitezh starting expanding its borders in all directions, becoming a powerful theocratic empire. Even while the Synkratic Church initiated another ill-fated crusade to take back the lands for Synkratism, Kitezh seemed poised to take its place the dominant power in the region. However, a few centuries later, Kitezh was pushed back to the valley by a series of military defeats at the hands of the emergent Duchy of Merzlota, which later became the modern Empire of Merzlota. The sudden emergence of the new power, combined with internal strife, caused the decline of Kitezhskij dominance and the collapse of the Kitezh imperial theocratic government.

Kingdom of Kraftriket[]

The Kingdom of Kraftriket (ᚴᚱᚨᚠᛏᚱᛁᚴᛖᛏ) is a monarchical state in eastern Soligaia on the west side of the Great Meadhan Sea, occupying the eastern half of the Miðheim Peninsula and the Futhark Peninsula on the east side of Gulf of Wulfrik. The Kingdom borders Värdland to the west, Merzlota to the north, and Narkallyar to the northeast.

Empire of Władca[]

The Empire of Władca is a large state in northern Soligaia, bordering the dwarven state of Karphijorc to the north, Ardeal to the southwest, Velikost and Ruteniya to the south, and Merzlota to the east. Once larger before dwarven Karphijorc split away from the land after what history knows as the Northern Dwarven War, Władca is known for its famous "northern spices," special frost herbs that only grow in the country's tundra. Władca originally grew out of its capital, Mazovia, back when said city was just a city-state. Władca is also constantly at territorial odds with Merzlota and Ardeal, and has gone to war with both countries before; its relations with Karphijorc and Ardeal are bitter as well.

Currently under the rule of Jagiellon‎ dynasty, Władca is one of the five Great Powers of Soligaia, along with Solaria, Starkland, Gallia and Merzlota.

Kingdoms of Magyarhaza[]

Demonym: Magyar
Currency: Címlet, Arany, Ezüst, Réz, Vas

The Kingdoms of Magyarhaza, also known as the Magyar Kingdoms, is the collective term for the seventeen independent Magyar Kingdoms in Magyarhaza, the main homeland of the Magyars, in the northernmost reaches of Soligaia. The kingdoms collectively occupy the large island of same name, the island of Jegmezo to the northwest, the island of Keleti to the east, several other outlying islands, and a mainland territory known as Világrész to the southwest.

Its island territories share maritime borders solely with Karphijorc to the southeast, while the mainland territory, Világrész, borders Malŭkiya to the west and south, the Carpi Corridor to the southeast, Ardeal to the extreme southeast, and the dwarven state of Karphijorc to the east.

Though each is independent, throughout the kingdoms the political structure is roughly the same.

Kingdom rulers are called Király (fem. Királynő). Heirs to the throne is called a Trónörökös, with the title Örökös being used for other possible heirs. Lower provincial rulers, from highest to lowest rank, include:

  • Hűbérúr
  • Főherceg (fem. Főhercegnő)
  • Herceg (fem. Hercegnő)
  • Kormányzó
  • Helytartó
  • Földbirtokos

Lower nobility, from highest to lowest rank, are:

  • Márki
  • Gróf (fem. Grófnő)
  • Vicomte (fem. Vicomtessz)
  • Báró (fem. Bárónő)

Nobility are addressed as Úr (fem. Hölgy). Knights are called Lovag (pl. Lovagjai).

Each kingdom is independent, but there exist a pair of titles that each covet Nagy Király [High King] and Uralkodó [Emperor]. Ancient Magyar custom dictates that only a Király who unites at least five kingdoms under one banner in a hegmonic confederation may attain the title of Nagy Király. Meanwhile, the title of Uralkodó may only be attained by one who succeeds in uniting all the kingdoms under one banner and ordainment by the Szentatya of the Grand Temple of Isten. While both titles are so highly coveted, neither is obtained very often.

The title of Nagy Király has been attained dozens of times in the last thousand years alone (oftentimes by multiple people simultaniously), but the title of Uralkodó, while hereditary in its own right, is more elusive and is not easily held on to. The imperial title has only been attained twice in the last three thousand years, the last imperial dynasty lasting only two generations. The last recorded Uralkodó was Zsombor Lőrincz, historically known as Zsombor the Great or Zsombor II.

Given that the Magyars are a warrior people known for raiding and plunder, the kingdoms generally have a bad reputation on the international stage.

United Kingdom of Meridiña[]

The United Kingdom of Meridiña, sometimes called the Meridiño Empire even though the head of state isn't termed as such, is a federated monarchical state in southwestern Soligaia. It borders Erdigune and Gallia to the north and Jóiazão to the southwest. It also holds sovereignty over the Viceroyalty of Selvatierra in northern Nekcroz, and Trópico in Maritymir.

Meridiña whole

The whole of the Meridiño Empire

History[]

Meridiña first began under the Edetani dynasty as a union of several nations/tribes fighting for independence and territory against the Gallique, whom had been encroaching upon and expanding into the region for centuries. After managing to expel Gallia, the second dynasty, the Ilergete dynasty, began when the last king of the Edetani died without issue, which also began a period of expansion that characterized Meridiña until recent history.

Meridiña divisions

Kingdoms of Meridiña

Currently ruled by House Osorio of the Jimenez dynasty, Meridiña was once the most powerful empire in the region, even once controlling the southern half of the Island of Dell'ovest, and was at one point considered one of the Great Powers; however, Meridiña lost much of its prestige and power as a result of the relatively recent Meridiño Civil War (4440 – 4445PCZ), which erupted as a result of Meridiña losing the Nine Years' War (4432 – 4441PCZ).

The Meridiño Civil War ended with the kingdom breaking up into several sovereign kingdoms: Aragon, Asturias, Borgia, Castile, Navarre, Galicia, and Leon. As a further insult, Aragon was soon conquered and by Solaria and turned into a province of the Solarii Empire (4446PCZ).

However, almost a century later, the kingdom of Castile, using careful diplomacy, several political schemes, and one massive war – referred to in history as the "Reconquista" (4522 – 4530PCZ) – resulted in Meridiña being reunited into a single state and Aragon being reconquered from Solarii rule.

Politics & Governance[]

Meridiña is divided into seven kingdoms under the yoke of the high king. Each a hereditary monarchy under the rule of a king. Two of them have their own forms of legislature while the others are absolute under the rule of their kings.

The Kingdom of Aragon is a monarchical province of Meridiña in southwest Soligaia. It borders Gallia to the east, Erdigune to the southeast, and Castile to the south.

Ruled by the House of Jimenez of Zaragoza, a cadet branch of the Jimenez dynasty, Aragon was one of the provinces of Meridiña that seceded as an independent kingdom as a result of revolt and civil war.

However, despite winning its independence, the new Aragonan monarchy was unable to come to full unity and build up an effective force, and was invaded and conquered by the Imperial Solarii Army (4446PCZ); thus Aragon became the latest addition to the Solarii Empire in Soligaia until Vopiscus' War (4527 – 4528PCZ) extended the southeastern border with Starkland and Gallia.

The cadet branch of the Jimenez dynasty was allowed to retain its throne, an exception to general Laws of Solarii Provinces via a treaty, but the land became a province of the empire and the House of Jimenez of Zaragoza a vassal of the Octavia dynasty.

A century later, Meridiña was reunited by diplomacy and war and Aragon was reconquered from Solarii rule.

Empire of Merzlota[]

In northeastern Soligaia is the is the western half of the Empire of Merzlota (ⰏⰅⰓⰈⰎⰑⰕⰀ), the eponymous nation of the Merzla people, which occupies "arch" of Geminos, the regions historically known as Zedylria, stretching into northwestern Aquilonis. It is also known as the Tsardom of Merzlota or the Merzlotskij Empire. Within its borders in the northwest, Merzlota surrounds the Sacred city of Kitezh. Because Merzlota spans across continents, it is one of the largest nations on Qirsyllviar.

Merzlota whole

The whole of the Merzlotskij Empire, stretching from northeastern Soligaia to northwestern Aquilonis. The Snezhok river, which is considered the divide between the continents, is in blue from the eastern edge of Kitezh.

Mostly tundra, grassland and taiga, with a several mountains, Merzlota is known for being inhospitable during winters, making travel and commerce difficult, at least to those who don't know how to traverse the wilderness. However, the Merzlotskij are quite at home in these lands, and make use of it to their advantage in times of peace or war.

Near the center of Merzlota, is the Snezhok river. The Snezhok (ⰔⰐⰅⰆⰑⰍ) runs from the eastern territorial edge of Kitezh, splits into two directions before rejoining again, and branches in two directions again until it empties into the Gulf of Lednike (ⰎⰅⰄⰐⰋⰍⰅ) at three separate points – as the western branch of the lower river branches out in two directions again. The Snezhok is generally considered the official divide between Soligaia and Aquilonis.

Currently ruled by House Stroganov of the Rurik dynasty, Merzlota is one of the five Great Powers of Soligaia, along with Gallia, Starkland, Władca and Solaria.

Kingdom of Mhrydain[]

The Kingdom of Mhrydain is monarchical nation of the Nghelt people on the southern side of the Island of High Albion on the Albian Isles in southeastern Soligaia. Occupying the Cymri region of High Albion, it solely borders Albion to the south.

Mhrydain is ruled by the ???, which is also called the ??? dynasty due to the majority of monarchs being named "???".

Albion has long claimed the land of Mhrydain as part of its sovereign territory, but all attempts to push that claim, either though reconquest or political intrigue, have been met with failure.

Kingdom of Narkallyar[]

The Kingdom of Narkallyar is an independent of dwarven kingdom in northeastern Soligaia, based mostly on the mountainous Groznak Peninsula, and some lands just beyond it, in northeastern Soligaia. It borders Merzlota to the north and Kraftriket to the southwest.

Kingdom of P’aylstan[]

The Kingdom of P’aylstan (Փայլստան) is a monarchical state on the upper half of the island of Dzyun (Ձյուն) (called Chioni (Χιονι) by the Trojans and Tolvi (თოვლი) by the Pipkieli)), in the northwestern-most corner of Soligaia, controlling most of of the Hayrenik’ (Հայրենիք) peninsula (called Dasavleti (დასავლეთი) by the Pipkieli). It borders Sapipkiao to the northeast and east via lands it controls and the Trojan Empire to the south.

Ruled by the Artashesyan dynasty, P’aylstan is an ancient nation going back at least two thousand years, though the current state is only about three hundred years old. It fought wars with the Empire of Akhaia, and the Trojan Empire, one of its successor, on-and-off for centuries, only resulting in brief exchanges of territory every time.

Republic of Pisa[]

The Republic of Pisa is a small city-state on the west side of the Island of Dell'ovest in western Soligaia. It borders Tesoreria to the north and Borgia to the south. While nominally a Republic, in practice it is a monarchy mostly controlled by the House of Piccolo.

State of Rhodes[]

The State of Rhodes is an island nation in the northwest corner of Soligaia, off the coast of the Trojan peninsula of the island of Chioni (Χιονι) (called Dzyun (Ձյուն) by the P’aylts’i), sharing maritime borders with Troy to the northeast and Keltikos to the southeast.

Run by the Knights Hospitaller, it was formed when Solaria attempted to invade P’aylstan by bypassing Troy by sea (this was before Naxos seceded from the Trojan Empire), but when the Solarii were called back due to the uprising in Skajvend, the accompanying Knights Hospitaller rebelled and chose to stay; the Knights haves held sovereignty over the island ever since, defending it against invaders zealously, while occasionally sending its order to intervene in conflicts around Soligaia.

Kingdom of Ruljotris[]

Principality of Ruteniya[]

The Principality of Ruteniya (ⰍⰐⰡⰆⰅⰔⰕⰂⰑ ⰓⰖⰕⰅⰐⰋⰡ/Knyazhestvo Ruteniya) is a landlocked state in northern Soligaia, bordering Władca to the north, Velikost to the west, Livonia to the south, and Merzlota to the east.

Once a dominant power in the region before Władca and Merzlota reduced it to a small nation during what's known to history as the Northern Wars, Ruteniya has since been reduced to a buffer state between the other powers in the region, as well as a vassal of Merzlota.

Kingdom of Sapipkiao[]

The Kingdom of Sapipkiao (საფიფქიაო) is a monarchical state on the island of the same name and on parts of the island of Tolvi (თოვლი) (called Dzyun (Ձյուն) by the P’aylts’i and Chioni (Χιονι) by the Trojans)), in the northwestern-most corner of Soligaia, controlling it's home island and parts of Tolvi, including the northern chunk of the Dasavleti (დასავლეთი) peninsula (called Hayrenik’ (Հայրենիք) by the P’aylts’i), and a chunk of land further south called Samkhreti (სამხრეთი). It borders Sapipkiao to the northeast and the Trojan Empire to the south.

Kingdom of Schwyz[]

The Kingdom of Schwyz is a confederated monarchical stare in central Soligaia. An alpine nation that occupies a large valley in the southern Alpes Mountains, the kingdom borders Starkland to the north and east, Gallia to the south, and Solaria to the west.

Schwyz was founded amongst a period of revolution in the area it now resides, carving out land from its neighbors in a recent war known as the Schwyzer War for Independence (4540 – 4544PCZ).

Kingdom of Skajvend[]

The Kingdom of Skajvend is a monarchical state in northwest Soligaia and the sovreign nation-state of the Skajtar people. It borders the Litore Region of Spiaggia & Litore to the west, Lazurselo to the north, the High Elven kingdom of Glajiltaris to the northeast and Došljselo to the east.

Skajvend was once a larger kingdom at odds with other powers in the area, particularly now-defunct Epirus, before it was conquered by the now-defunct Akhaian Empire. It tried to secede as a resurgent independent nation during the Kelt Revolution (c. 3945 – 3950PCZ), but the movement ended when it was invaded and conquered by Solaria. At some point after the Solarii invasion, its people rose up against Solarii rule and tried, yet again, to break away as a separate kingdom, but this rebellion was crushed.

Another rebellion was held in recent history, this time it succeeded.

Empire of Solaria[]

The Empire of Solaria, officially known as the Coronatorum Reipublicae Imperatoria Solarii (Imperial Solarii Crowned Republic), often abbreviated C.R.I.S., and commonly known in some countries as the Solarian Empire, is a large state controlling great swaths of territory in western Soligaia.

Solaria occupies most of the Latium Peninsula, where it borders Gallia to the south, Starkland to the east, Schwyz to the southeast, Spiaggia & Litore and Catholica Region of Sanct'cora to the northeast; the current southeastern border of contiguous Solaria is a result of the recent Vopiscus' War (4527 – 4528PCZ), as it's known in Solaria, followed by the Schwyzer War for Independence (4540 – 4544PCZ). To the west it borders the contiguous body of the Papal Empire. Most of these territories are known as the Imperium Territories, ruled directly by the Augustus and his vassals. Other provinces are ruled by the Proconsuls (ex-Consuls that govern provinces on behalf of the Augustus). The eastern border of Solaria is marked mainly by the Alpes Mountains.

In the Meridione Sea, Solaria holds the islands of Catlaster (the larger western island) and Puellula (the smaller eastern island); and further to the south, in the Meridiño regions, it holds the Province of Aragon, which borders Meridiña to the south, Erdigune to the southeast, and Gallia to the east. Aragon was briefly independent, winning it from Meridiña, but was unable to resist the invasion of the Solarii Imperial Army.

It also for a time held the Kelt peninsula as the Akhaian Provinces, but wars near the homeland forced them too pull troops out, sacrficing sovereignty.

Southwest, just off the peninsula by the Strait of Sextus, it controls the northern half of the Island of Trinacria, which borders the Republic of Trinacria to the south, and shares maritime borders with the Gladius Region of Sanct'cora across the strait to the north. Westward, in the Musica Sea, its westernmost Soligaian territory is the island province of Melitae, which shares borders with no other nation and served as the launchpad for the invasion that established the former Serica Provincae.

Solaria at one time held what was once called the Serica Provincae, across the Musica Sea to the west in Marlakcor, established as a result of the Solarii Conquest of Daludao. But, in part becuase Solaria had to pull out its troops to deal with threats at home, these lands were lost with the Miaogui War for Independence, resulting in the independence of the Miaogui Republic

History[]

Solaria began as a rebellion a border region between the former Empire of Spiaggia, the Etruscan Kingdom, and the Imperial Republic of Carthage. These three nations once controlled varying parts of the Latium Peninsula, vying for land and power in a never-ending struggle for dominance. The people of the city of Solarium rose up against these three powers in the aftermath of a war that left all three in a state of military exhaustion, leaving them unable to put down the rebellion. Solaria was quickly declared a new state by the leader of the rebellion, known to history as Octavius Aurelius Magnus, who eventually declared the first Augustus (Emperor), founder of the Solarii Empire and of the Aurelian dynasty. The ensuing Solarii Conquest of Latium (c. 3531 – c. 3555PCZ) resulted in the eventual full conquest of the Latium Peninsula, and the cessation of existence for Etrusca and Carthage; only Spiaggia survived the wars. Later on, Solaria lost control of swathes of territory in the west when many members of the Synkratic Church revolted in response to the Solarii Government's decision to limit and reduce the power of the church within the borders of the empire. The resulting war that led to the establishment of the State of the Synkratic Church.

Governance & Politics[]

While called a crowned republic, due to having a moderately powerful senate, the Solarii Augustus (fem. Augusta) is a semi-hereditary monarchy with near absolute power, with rather small checks and divisions of power. The Augustus, the two Consuls (the "Prime Ministers" of Solaria, with whom the Augustus, unevenly, shares power in the Senate), and all senators can propose laws on equal grounds, but the Augustus has the power veto any decisions the senate makes, but a similar power can be exercised by two-thirds of the senate against the Augustus' decision; but this is seldom evoked and the Augustus usually wins out.

The direct children and siblings of the Augustus are titled Princeps/Principissa (pl. Princepse/Princepissas) while other relatives of the Augustus are titled Dominus (fem. Domina); the latter title is often also used by Solarii nobility.

While the Augustus does rule for life, or until abdication, and Augustuses are typically part of the ruling dynasty, the throne is not directly inheritable; the Augustus personally selects his/her designated heir, which is titled Caesar (fem. Caesarissa ). While the position and power of a future Augustus is designated to an heir, a potential candidate is required to be lawfully related to the ruling dynasty, and to be affirmed by the Senate. However, nomination is not limited to those who's relation is by blood, one is eligible for nomination if they were adopted into the ruling family of the dynasty, whether the main family or a branch, and it is a common practice for the Augustus' direct, whether by blood or law, to become Augustus/Augusta in their turn. However, relatives who have been excluded, such as bastards or through disinheritance, are excluded from candidacy.

The rules aside, the position of heir is not just simply handed out, even to the Augustus' own children; often one must first prove themselves worthy of the position in the eyes of the current Augustus. Therefore, it is not common practice for the heir to have already worked their way into some position of power in the government or military before being nominated: I.e. the Consuls, the Proconsuls, the Praetors (who serve positions in either the senate or the military), senior senators, the Dictator, the Imperators, the Legates, etc. This method of succession is not perfect, and disputes between those who believe themselves to be the rightful Augustus, especially if they feel cheated out of the position, has led to civil war on more than one occasion. This often happens when an Augustus dies without a designated heir, or if the Augustus makes a controversial decision on who will be Caesar/Caesarissa .

In the event of a vacant throne or if the designated heir is underage, the Dictator and the Consuls would form a triumvirate regency to fill the power vacuum until a new Augustus was chosen or the heir came of age. This is not without issues though; it can result in a change of dynasty if one of the three refuses to step down from power, which has happened several times in the empire's history with varying consequences. Another possible issue is that the three could refuse to hand over power to the new Augustus, either abolishing the monarchy altogether and creating a republic, or splitting the rule of Augustus between them. The former has happened once in the empire's history, ending the Gargonian dynasty and creating a sixty-year period termed the "Republican Era" before it was overthrown, restoring the monarchy under the Cornelian dynasty.

Military[]

The Augustus is also the commander-in-chief of the entirety of the Imperial Solarii Army/Navy, and the the highest-ranking commander of the Imperial Solarii Armies & Navies directly beneath the Augustus is the Dictator. The Dictator is essentially second-in-command to the Augustus, sharing near-equal authority over the entire military, but any decisions the Dictator makes can be overruled by the Augustus. The next rank in the military hierarchy is the Imperator (fem. Imperatrix). The Imperators command two to ten legions at a time, and the Augustus can assign or reassign them at his leisure; meanwhile, the Augustus commands as many legions as he pleases at any given time. The Augustus often delegates Dictator and the Imperators to lead the armies on campaigns in his stead, and the Augustus can have the Dictator and a number of Imperators at his side to delegate command of some of the legions in the event he personally leads a campaign.

Legions, each commanded by a Legatus ((pl. Legates) a regular General), are divided into ten cohorts. Each cohort is divided into six centuriae (sing. centuria), each commanded by a Centurion; the cohorts have no assigned leader, but are led by the most senior Centurion. Centuriae of the 2nd through 10th cohorts are made up of about roughly between 80 and 100 men each (the majority are legionaries (foot soldiers), while the remainder are sagittarii (sing. sagittarius (ranged infantry)), but the 1st cohorts are different; they are commanded directly by the Legatus, and are made up of five centuriae of roughly between 140 and 160 men each.

The cavalry corps are a separate body attached to a legion; an individual cavalry squadron is known as a turma, with roughly 30 men, and are commanded by a Decurion. A legion can have as many as four turmas. The main legion and the cavalry combined bring the total men of an entire legion to over 6,300 soldiers at full strength.

An Imperator, the third highest rank in the Imperial Solarii Army/Navy, can command up to a maximum of ten legions; combining the regular foot soldiers and cavalry, and excluding any auxiliaries, an Imperator can have command of over 63,200 soldiers in the case of ten legions.

Today the Solarii Empire, under the rule of the Mariana dynasty, is one of the five Great Powers of Soligaia, along with Gallia, Starkland, Władca and Merzlota.

Province of Malitae[]

Republic of Spiaggia & Litore[]

The Republic of Spiaggia & Litore is a merchant republican state in central Soligaia. Split into four exclaves, the first exclave, the Spiaggia Region, borders the High Elven kingdom of Glajiltaris to the north, High Elven Ruljotris and Starkland to the west, and the Catholica Region of Sanct'cora to the south; the second exclave, the Piegare Region, borders the Catholica Region to the east and Solaria to the south; the third exclave, the Marino Region, solely borders Solaria to the south. The fourth exclave, the Litore Region, is far off down the Minervan Sea, and borders Keltikos to the northwest, Lazurselo to the north, and Skajvend to the east.

Once a mighty empire in its own right, often competing for land and power with the now-defunct Etruscan Kingdom and Imperial Republic of Carthage, the original Spiaggian Empire was overthrown during the closing stages of the Solarii Conquest of Latium (c. 3531 – c. 3555PCZ) and is now a Republic. The only original state to survive the wars, Spiaggia's original territory is also now split into three exclaves as a result of those wars.

In time it gained control of the Litore Region via a combination of busiiness and conquest and was renamed Spiaggia & Litore.

Empire of Starkland[]

The Empire of Starkland, also called the Starkchen Empire, and known locally as Starkstaat or Starkreich, is a large nation occupying central Soligaia, bordering Velikost to the north, High Elven Ruljotris to the northwest, the Spiaggia Region of Spiaggia & Litore, Catholica Region of Sanct'cora, Solaria and Ostrogoth to the west, Schwyz to the southwest, Gallia to the south, Gëllenbourge and Zachtland to the southeast, Ægtjord to the east, and the State of the Teutonic Order and Livonia to the northeast.

Starkland is divided into many separate constituent jurisdictions, called Imperial Estates, which have Imperial Immediacy, meaning that the only authority above them is the Kaiser. There are several types of jurisdictions: territories ruled by a hereditary nobleman; territories in which secular authority was held by a clerical dignitary; Free imperial cities and Imperial villages, city-states and villages which are subject only to the jurisdiction of the Kaiser and have a vote in the Reichstag.

There are also several states styled as a Republik [Republic], governed by elected official. Leaders of republics are titled either a Präsident [President], a Statthalter [Governor], a Vorsitzende [Chairman/Chairwoman], or a Machthaber [Dictator]. Statthalter and Vorsitzende are also often used for elected/appointed leaders of subdivisions of a republic. However, sometimes a republic can wind up under the rule of a hereditary dicatorship if such a person is manipulative enough to keep the power in his/her family.

Several territories are also clerical, in which the ruler, termed a Prinz der Kirche [Prince of the Church], is also designated a religious title, ranging from Prince-Archbishops, Prince-Bishops, Prince-Abbots and Prince-Provosts of the Empire. Several territories also also governed by religious leaders appointed from the church instead of hereditary noblemen.

There also dozens Freie kaiserliche Städte [Free Imperial Cities] and a few hundred Freie kaiserliche Dörfer [Free Imperial Villages] subject only to the Kaiser.

There are also a number of estates ruled by military orders from its branch headquarters in the imperial capital.

There also also small estates ruled by a landed knight.

Beneath the Kaiser, the hereditary noblemen of the Imperial Estates
have various levels and titles. They include, from highest to lowest rank:

All the territories of the empire (regardless of their varying styles) combined put the number of Imperial Estates subject to the Kaiser at more than five hundred. This number often fluctuates for various reasons, including one territory's absorption by another, or a new separate territory is formed out of a larger one for one reason or another (i.e. separatism by war or reorganization by imperial decree). However, there are no more than three recognized kingdoms and four recognized republics.

While each ruler pledges perpetuate fealty to the Kaiser, and have the right to be represented in the Reichstag, the rulers of the constituent territories enjoy a great deal of autonomy, bordering on de facto independence. To maintain some sort of unity, each state sends a delegation to the Reichstag to represent them in the government. However, there are also scattered estates of the varying levels, immediate to the Emperor but unrepresented in the Reichstag.

The Starkisch constitution groups handfuls of these territories into twenty-five regions referred to as Kurfürstentum [Electorate]. The most senior ruler of these regions is designated a Kurfürst(in) [Prince-Elector/Princess-Electress] along with their current title. The Electors are part of the Electoral College, and their job is to choose the new Kaiser out of one of several candidates when the current Kaiser dies or abdicates. For this reason, while the the position of Kaiser is nominally elective, it is often hereditary in practice as it is most common for member of the deceased Kaiser's family to be elected. This often because members of the Kaiser's dynasty also rule a number of lower ranked territories of the empire. As a result, Starkland is currently under the de facto rule of House Zeitlos of the Herrlichkeit dynasty, which spent dozens of generations over the past couple centuries gathering as much influence and as many titles as possible until is usurped control of Starkland from House Leitend, a distant branch of the same dynasty and another leading house of Starkland, by election. Since this method of succession isn't perfect, disputes over between who is the rightful Kaiser has led to civil wars for the throne on more than one occasion.

There are any dozens of nobles houses of Starkland, but the major ones include:
House Race Words Known Ruled Territores
Eisen Human Eisen und Stahl

The current imperial house. Part of the wider Herrlichkeit dynasty.

First Kaiser elected from House Zeitlos was Jasper Frederick Leopold Hans-Ulrich Dagobert Conrad von Zeitlos; aka Jasper II (ruled 4233–4285PCZ).

Before the Revolution of 2467, Starkland was a unitary empire under the autocratic control of the Kaiser. As a result of that revolution, Starkland broke up into hundreds of independent states constantly warring with each other for land and power. It wasn't until at least two hundred years later that the current decentralized political structure was proposed. After at least twenty years of negotiations, compromises, and at least three wars, Starkland's current political structure was fully implemented across the whole of Starkland. Also, while Starkland is decentralized, and the Imperial Estates enjoy a great deal of autonomy, the power of the Kaiser remains absolute.

Starkland is one of the five Great Powers of Soligaia, along with Solaria, Gallia, Władca and Merzlota.

Kingdom of Suomi[]

State of the Teutonic Order[]

The State of the Teutonic Order, more commonly known as Ordensstaat by themselves and other nations, is a Knightly Nation in eastern Soligaia, bordering Starkland to the east and Livonia to the north.

Run by the Teutonic Knights, it was formed out of the former what used to be the southern half of the Kingdom of Livonia. During the early stages of the Offenheitist Reformations, a Synkratic König of Starkland sent the Order to conquer the Holy land of Soligaia, which was then under the soveriengty of Livonia, in order to keep it Synkratic, as the Kingdom of Livonia was in the process of converting.

The then Großmeister, both to spite the König due to his treatment of the Order, and becuase he himself sympathized with the Reformation, rebelled and instead took over the conquered portion of the kingdom and openly converted to Offenheitism. Over the following years the order successfully defended the territory against invading Synkratic and Vozrodist armies, eventually entering into an uneasy peace treaty that nt only secured the Order's independence as a sovereign nation, but garuanteed the freedom for all branches of Septifidelity to worship in the Holy Land. The Teutonic Order has since defended the land with all its might, while occasionally sending its Order to intervene in conflicts in other regions.

Kingdom of Tesoreria[]

The Kingdom of Tesoreria is a state on the northern half of Island of Dell'ovest, bordering Borgia, Pisa and the Sanctus Region of Sanct'cora to the south, Firenze to the east, and Viverna to the north.

Founded and ruled by the House of Amerigo, a family of obscure origins, it is friendly with Medici-ruled Firenze but has been at odds with the rival Salazar-ruled Borgia since its founding.

Republic of Trinacria[]

The Republic of Trinacria is a republican island nation on the southern half of the island of the same name in the southwestern sea of Soligaia, just off the Latium Peninsula, dubbed the Sea of Gracias, solely land borders with the Solarii Province of North Trinacria to the north, and sharing maritime borders with no other nation.

Empire of Troy[]

The Empire of Troy, commonly known as the Trojan Empire, is a hegemonic confederated monarchical state on the southern half of the Phrygian Peninsula. On the Phrygian Peninsula, Troy borders P’aylstan to the north. It shares maritime borders with Malŭkiya to the east via the Pagos Strait (Παγος Πορθμος/Pagos Porthmos), and Keltikos to the south.

Troy was once the northern half of the Empire of Akhaia before the Kelt Revolution (c. 3945 – 3950PCZ). During the Revolution, the empire broke up into several kingdoms that immediately began fighting for land and power. When Solaria invaded and conquered the former empire's southern lands (then a loose defensive pact confederation known as the Amyntikos League) when the empire fell apart, the Trojan Empire was formed under the Trojan dynasty, the rulers of the Kingdom of Troy, to resist expansion of Solaria when they, inevitably, turned their attentions north. After several years of war, an uneasy peace was established, but the empire remains at odds with Solaria. Even before the end of Solarii rule in the Kelt peninsula, Troy viewed that Solaria's Akhaian Provinces as rightfully theirs, and retains a fiercely cold diplomacy with Solaria. It also maintains cold diplomacy with the Empire of Keltikos. It still claims sovereingty over the peninsula and the islands, but has been too busy keeping P’aylstan in check to press those claims.

The League has a tense rivalry with P’aylstan. The former Empire of Akhaia tried time and again to conquer P’aylstan, but all attempts at invasion were met with repulsion. The League remains at odds with P’aylstan, leading to continuous on-and-off wars lasting anywhere from a few days to a few years, but always ending in some kind of truce.

Kingdom of Borgia[]

The Kingdom of Borgia is a monarchical nation occupying the southern half of the Island of Dell'ovest. Borgia is bordered by Pisa to the northwest, Tesoreria to the north, and the Sanctus Region of Sanct'cora to the east.

Originally sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Meridiña, the Kingdom of Borgia was founded as a breakaway state in the midst of the Meridiño Civil War (4440 – 4445PCZ) that resulted in most of the Kingdom of Meridiña breaking apart.

It is currently ruled by the House of Salazar, a Meridiño-Dell'isolano noble family. Known for its tyrannical nature, it is one of the few known permanent (yet secret) Cult of Chaos strongholds in Soligaia.

Empire of Värdland[]

The Empire of Värdland (ᚹᚬᚱᛞᛚᚨᚾᛞ) is a monarchical state in eastern Soligaia, occupying the western half of the Miðheim Peninsula and the Stockheim Peninsula on the west side of Gulf of Wulfrik. The Kingdom borders Kraftriket to the east, Suomi to the northwest, and Merzlota to the north.

Ruled by the Munso dynasty, the kingdom was once part of a larger empire that descended from migrators of Ásgarður.

Värdland struggles religiously, as it is almost equal parts Septifidelity – mostly Freiheitism – and Sjálfvirkism.

Principality of Viverna[]

The Principality of Viverna is a small diarchal monarchical city-state on the northern peninsula of the Island of Dell'ovest in western Soligaia, centered around the city of Viverna. It solely borders Tesoreria to the south.

A diarchal monarchy ruled by the House of Montagnese and the House of Cappelletti, two rival factions from the Vivernan Civil War (4141 – 4145PCZ). The House of Montagnese is the more totalitarian of the pair, valuing control and is plagued with internal strife, and does not hesitate to use force to calm the populace. The House of Cappelletti is a more liberal, freedom loving, family at heart; it flourishes from the liberty of the people, and the generosity of the ruling families. Originally separate houses, the modern houses Montagnese and Cappelletti are decended from the children of Romano de Montagnese and Giulietta de Cappelletti.

History[]

Once the mighty Kingdom of Viverna, the Montagnese and Cappelletti were bitter rivals constantly struggling for dominance in the politics of Viverna.

The Vivernan Civil War broke out between the two factions towards the end of the Warring States Period of Dell'ovest (c. 3971 – 4143PCZ), when the previous dynasty, the House of Escalus, went extinct when the last king (Giacomo Sergius de Escalus/Giacomo III) died without issue. Both houses tried to claim the unoccupied throne via their distant relations to the House of Escalus. The fighting resulted in the former Kingdom of Viverna being split into north and south, with both sides exerting control over half of the remaining rump state (its southern territories beyond the neck of the peninsula had been conquered by its southern neighbor). Even after the first official truce, both sides continued going to war on and off for three hundred years with varying periods of peace in between. Every instance, no matter the cause, saw the City of Viverna, the capital of the former kingdom, being contested (either switching hands or being cut in two).

What finally ended the fighting between the Montagnese and Cappelletti was the marriage of Romano Ezio de Montagnese to Giulietta Xenia de Cappelletti; these two fell in love, married and formed a third faction to stop the fighting. As the newly declared king and queen by their followers, they reunified Viverna under a new dynasty, known as the House of Montagnese-Cappelletti, and restored the City of Viverna as the capital. Regardless of the newfound peace, their relatives were never able to see eye-to-eye, most viewing the union with disgust, and the peace only lasted ten years.

A decade after they ascended the throne, Romano and Giulietta died, their peaceful rule suddenly ending in tragedy when they were both assassinated. Romano was poisoned at dinner one night, and an unknown assailant cut Giulietta's throat after he collapsed, as she had not yet sipped her drink before Romano collapsed. After their passing, with both houses blaming each other for the murders (and also stemming from other unresolved issues), the political feuding between the Montagnese and Cappelletti started again, almost ending the new dynasty's rule

After several months of bickering, the heads of the respective houses, in light of compelling (and possibly forged, as some conspiracy theorists claim) evidence that neither house was responsible, came to a compromise: the thrones were passed to Romano and Giulietta's twin children, a son and daughter, Augusto and Fiorenza respectively; the heads of both houses took in both children separately (the Montagnese took in Fiorenza, while the Cappelletti took in Augusto); and a diarchal form of government was established, with the dynasty begun by Romano and Giulietta was redivided into Montagnese and Cappelletti branches sharing equal sovereignty. This prevented another costly civil war.

The House of Montagnese-Cappelletti ceased to exist with the redivision of the dynasty down separate lines, but the current rulers remain Romano and Giulietta's descendants.

Archduchy of Velikost[]

The Archduchy of Velikost, in a monarchical nation in north-central Soligaia, bordering High Elven Glajiltaris the west and northwest, Ardeal and Władca to the north, Ruteniya to the east, Livonia to the southeast, Starkland to the south, and High Elven Ruljotris to the southeast

Currently ruled by House Zierotin of the Přemyslid dynasty (a cadet branch of the original now-extinct imperial Napájení dynasty), Velikost was historically a powerful nation, known then as the Empire of Napájení, that rivaled the vampiric Amurgine Empire at its height. A series of civil wars resulted in a decline in its power that eventually led to its annexation by Starkland as a province of the empire. However, it became notorious for resisting the rule of the Kaiser with demands for autonomy and two failed wars for independence.

Finally, when a civil war of succession for the Imperial Throne broke out, Velikost's then ruling family took the chance to break away amidst the squabble for the throne between several noble houses. This time it was a success, and the royals of Velikost became independent once again.

Kingdom of Zachtland[]

The Kingdom of Zachtland is a monarchical nation in southeastern Soligaia. It borders Starkland to the west, Gëllenbourge to the southwest, and Corraine to the south. Zacthland also controls an overseas colonal empire in the southern hemisphere. It's sole territory in Nekroz is Nieuw Zachtland, but it has a much larger empire in Tarak. While Zachtland's colonial empire as a whole is nowhere near as vast as other colonial empires established by Soligaian powers, it is the wealthiest by far.

Zachtland whole

The entirety of Zachtland's colonial empire.

Like Gëllenbourge was once the western provinces of Corraine, Zachtland was once the northern ones. Zachtland won its independence from Corraine as a result of the peace treaties that ended both the Corrainese Civil War and the Nine Years' War. Said treaty also ceded Corraine's overseas empire to Zachtland

Aerial Lands[]

Kingdom of Ásgarður[]

Ásgarður (ᚨᛋᚷᚨᚱᛞᚢᚱ) is the kingdom and island that flies over the Odin Archipelago, a group of sparsely populated islands in the middle of the Great Meadhan Sea.

Legends say that Ásgarður is actually the mythical Ásgarðr (ᚨᛋᚷᚨᚱᛞᚱ), cast into the Miðgarðr (the physical world in Sjálfvirk myth), but whether this is fact or fiction is anyone's guess. Modern philosophers beleive that it is in fact a myth and Ásgarður and Ásgarðr are in fact separate places.

Asgard (Patria)

Ásgarður is the ancient homeland of the Sjálfvirk peoples before being sent into the sky, leaving what is now known as Ísjökull behind, and many of whom remained on Ísjökull when Ásgarður was sent skyward, thus leading to the migration of the peoples and the founding of many historical clans and states that eventually, after many centuries of war, peace, confederation and fragmentation, became the Värden and Kraftør Kingdoms.

Kingdom of Avalon[]

Flying over the channel separating Albion and Gallia is the Kingdom of Avalon. It was once the land connecting the Island of High Albion to mainland Soligaia.

Avalon

Once the most heavily contested territory in early history of Soligaian civilizations of the southeast, it was the site of many wars between early empires. The last known war is known to history as the War of the Three Emperors (c. 1234ACZ – c. 1180ACZ), a three-way-war fought between what was then the Empire of Pyrtrio, the Empire of Rityria, and the Kingdom of Alvyria. The war lasted more than fifty years (according to historical texts) and nearly ruined the fertile land.

In an effort to preserve the fertility, and end the ceaseless struggle for the land, a gathering of all seven abjaksan tore the land bridge from the surface and sent it into the sky.

The descendants of the peoples that ended up trapped on the new flying island since formed the Kingdom of Avalon. The save for a Gate Portal connecting it to the surface, the flying island endured many centuries of isolation, but it was peaceful, save for a few civil wars of succession, and the kingdom has been restoring relations with the nations of the surface over the last few centuries.

Neutral Territories[]

Apokleio[]

Apokleio

Apokleio (Αποκλειω), is a large island west of Keltikos that is neutral becuase landing upon it has been forbidden for centuries. This is due to the fact that only a handful of people who visited the island have ever returned. Legends passed down from the survivors speak of unspeakable horrors upon the island, ranging from poisonous miasma to man-eating plants and monsters. Some legends say that this due to Tartaros, the prison which the titanes were imprisoned, lies beneath it. This belief resulted in two theories: the negative energy resonating from the resentment of the titanes attracts them, or they were placed there by the gods to prevent anyone from releasing the titanes. Whatever the case, real or imagined, no one has set foot on Apokleio for centuries, and even the other nations of the world respect this.

The sole exceptions to this forbiddance are the costal trading towns of Pagospolis (Παγοςπολις) and Emporikpolis (Εμπορικπολης) on the northern and southern tips of the island respectively. Both serve as a important free trade zones as well as stop-and-resupply points between Soligaia and Marlakcor. Due to the dangers of the island, no one ventures farther than a mile inland from the boundaries of either town.

The smaller island just off the east coast of Apokleio, and the three islands just northeast, are a bit of a grey area as traversal is allowed, but they remain neutral territory as well, as well as serve a similar purpose to the two trading towns.

The Carpi Corridor[]

Neutral strip

The Carpi Corridor is one of the neutral zones on mainland Soligaia. It was established as a buffer zone between the Empire of Malŭkiya and the Kingdom of Ardeal following an uneasy peace treaty that ended the last Malŭkchija-Ardealian War (4079 – 4119PCZ) which lasted forty years.

It runs along a highway, known as the Snowroad, through a series of mountain passes that allow navigation through the Carpiani Mountains, the mountain range that divides Malŭkiya and Ardeal. This zone is demilitarized and is freely used for trade between Magyarhaza and Glajiltaris. It is also often used by refugees fleeing war as a way to pass by without starting border disputes. But, it is also often used by Magyar raiders to get further inland for raiding.

Ifaisteio Mountains[]

Ifaisteio Mountains

The Ifaisteio Mountains (Ηφαιστειο Βουνα/Ifaisteio Vouná) are an impassible volcanic mountain range in northwestern Soligaia. There are at least five active volcanoes in the chain.

It borders Malŭkiya to the north, Keltikos to the west, Lazurselo to the south, and Glajiltaris to the southeast. The volcanic dangers of the range and the lack of accessible pathways have kept the range from being colonized by sovereign states since time immemorial, but there have been rumors of dwarven cities hidden within them for centuries.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The demonym for people from Soligaia is "Soligaian."
  • The northeastern lands of Soligaia is cut off because it extends into Aquilonis as part of the larger continent "Geminos."
