Disney In The House: Wild Wild West is a 2018 American live-action/animated western comedy film produced by Walt Disney Wonder Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The sequel to Disney In The House: Christmas and the fourth installment in the classic Disney In The House franchise, It was directed by Steve Pink from a screenplay by Bob Tzudiker, Noni White, Gary Marsh, and Gary Krisel. The film stars Sarah Silverman, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Tom Hanks reprising their roles from the previous films, with Andy Dick returning as a new character alongside newcomers Joan Cusack, Kyle MacLachlan, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Amy Adams, Anthony LaPaglia, Albert Brooks, Dominic Monaghan, and Alan Cumming joining the cast. The plot centers on Vanellope von Schweetz, Judy Hopps, Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye being transported to the Old West on an adventure with a heroic cowboy and his family to save a prospector from a greedy bandit.

The film was released theatrically in the United States on May 11, 2018 and received positive reviews, with critics considering it an improvement over its predecessor while praising its characters, performances, awe-inspiring story, humor, visuals, and Christophe Beck's musical score. It was also commercially successful, grossing $881 million worldwide on a $160 million budget. It received two Academy Award nominations: Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.

It was followed by six sequels: Disney In The House: Musical Melody, Disney In The House: Off To Adventure Camp, Disney In The House: Time Travel, Disney In The House: Return To Adventure Camp, Disney In The House: World Animals, and Disney In The House: Oceans on December 25, 2018 March 3, 2019, June 13, 2019, September 13, 2019, December 23, 2019, and February 25, 2020.

Plot

On the New Years Eve since Disney In The House: Christmas, Vanellope von Schweetz, Judy Hopps, Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye discover a magic wooden box and receive a book about the Wild Wild West. Vanellope wishes they could go there for just one adventure, causing the book to transport the box containing Judy, Vanellope, Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye there. In the Wild Wild West, they witness a mysterious bandit threatening to kill a child if she does not tell him where Cowboy Bulb Shandling is. Vanellope, Jessie, Woody, Bullseye, and Judy draw the bandit away to protect the child whose name is Kennedi Shandling. As a result, they are welcomed into the West and meet her father Bulb Shandling, his wife Cowgirl Janet Shandling, and his friend Kropps the prospector, who give them a tour.

After a trail of fun across the Wild Wild West, such as making chocolate chip cookies, watching Woody's Roundup, navigating their way through the Old West Museum, and holding a sing-along, The group encounters the bandit again. He destroys the museum's most prestigious statue and kidnaps Kropps. Vanellope, Judy, Woody, Jessie, Bullseye, Bulb, Janet, and Kennedi learn from Bulb's friend Ms. Noble that the bandit was a bank robber named Krei Overkill. Vanellope, Judy, Bulb, Kennedi, Janet, Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye follow his tracks. His goons arrive and battle them, capturing Bullseye and Jessie in the process, but Vanellope, Judy, Bulb, Kennedi, Janet, and Woody escape the crumbling cliffside just in time to get back onto Krei's path. They follow a shortcut--only to encounter a series of traps including arrow shots, but Bullseye and Jessie break free and save them.

In Krei's hideout, Krei almost kills Kropps but Vanellope tells him not to hurt him. Bulb punches Krei. Krei destroys the train bridge to turn Kropps into rattlesnake food. Vanellope tries to stop the train, but is unable to do so, and inadvertently breaks the train brake lever. Judy becomes Super Judy and, in seconds, saves the train from total disaster. Back in town, Vanellope forces Krei to surrender, and he and his goons are arrested. Praised as heroes by the people of the Wild Wild West, Vanellope, Judy, Jessie, Woody, and Bullseye pull out the Wild Wild West book and wish to go back home, causing the magic box to bring them back to Disneyville. Back home, Vanellope, Judy, Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye tell their amazing story about their Wild Wild West adventure at Disneyville Library.

In a mid-credits scene, Vanellope is seen doing the flemenco in Disneyville Theater.

The film opened on May 11, 2018. It grossed $365 million in the United States and Canada, and $516 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $881 million. It is the fourth highest-grossing Walt Disney Wonder Studios film.

Critical response

The film has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 133 reviews. The consensus reads, "With more crispy CGI effects and good humor, Disney In The House: Wild Wild West is an arguably fleshed-out fourth installment that younger Disney In The House fans will enjoy until the cows come home". Metacritic calculated a score of 83 out of 100 based on 26 critics, indicating "universal acclaim". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave it a grade of "A" on an A+ to F scale.

Bilge Ebiri of Vulture gave the film four stars for being an improvement over its predecessor, saying, "Christmas was bad. Uggh. But I was captivated by the even better Wild Wild West". Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun Times gave the film "Two Thumbs Up". A.O. Scott of The New York Times was also positive about the film, praising the humor, visual aspects, Christophe Beck's musical score and the performance of Kyle MacLachlan as Bulb Shandling.
