Digimon is a science fiction adventure film based on the anime of the same name. The film, which combines computer animation with live-action, is directed by James Cameron, with the creator of the Digimon media franchise Akiyoshi Hongo serving as executive producer and the screenplay written and produced by Drew Gars in cooperation with Bandai. It stars Douglas Booth, Josh Hutcherson, Eliza Bennett, Shailene Woodley, Asa Butterfield, Robert Sheehan, and Ty Sympkins as the DigiDestined. Leslie Mann, Ty Burrell, Patrick Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ron Perlman, Derek Mears, Joey King and Ed Helms also star, featuring guest appearances by Timothy Olyphant, Carla Gugino, Ashley Judd, Jason Bateman, Radha Mitchell, Jon Hamm, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Garner, Amy Poehler, John Lithgow, Jay Baruchel, Ellie Kemper, T.J. Miller and Simon Pegg, while the Digimon voice actors reprise their roles from the anime respectively.
Plot
A group of youths who gets transported to a strange dimension called the "Digital World" while they are at summer camp where they discover that they are in a land where digital creatures called "Digimon" dwell. Befriending seven of the Digimon, the youths learn that they have the ability to help their partners digitally evolve (digivolve) into stronger, powerful forms that can combat enemies for a short amount of time. Setting off on their journey, the youths start searching for a way home. While there, they learn that they are the "DigiDestined", chosen children with compatibilities with Digimon, and they are the only hope in destroying an evil digmon that is slowly about to consuming the Digital World.

Sequel
During an interview with the producers, Akiyoshi Hongo and Drew Gars (who is also the screenwriter), stated that there will be a sequel but director James Cameron will not return to direct due to scheduling conflicts. It was later announced that Greg McLean will direct the film. Booth, Hutcherson, Bennett, Woodley, Butterfield, Simpkins, Hoult, Stewart, King, Mann, Burrell, Olyphant, Gugino, Bateman, Judd, Hamm, Mitchell, Ferrell and Garner have signed on to reprise their roles for three films. Bruce Campbell is casted to portray the film's main antagonist, Etemon. The voice actors will reprise their roles as the Digimon companions. Actor Douglas Booth, who portrays Tai Kamden, revealed that David Cross joined the cast.
