Child's Play is a 2019 American Slasher Horror film written by Tyler Burton Smith and directed by Lars Klevberg. It is a remake of the Don Mancini and Tom Holland 1988 Slasher horror film of the same name, which was the first of a franchise that introduced the popular horror icon of killer doll 'Chucky.'

The film changes the initial plot structure of a serial killer, via voodoo incorporating his soul into a toy doll with an advanced doll construct going haywire, after tampering by a spree killer.

It stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Gabriel Bateman, Taylor Rouviere, Kalia Prescott and Martin Klebba.

Plot[]

Chicago based toy designers Charles Lee Ray, Eddie Caputo, Jeff O'Dell and Nathan Wyatt unveil their prototype for the Buddi doll, an intellectually advanced, learning companion for kids that is set up by wireless internet.

Charles, a secretly unstable, obsessive and psychotic individual murders co-worker Nathan, after suspecting Charles of tampering with their prototype, aptly named Chucky (after Charles' nickname).

Charles corners Nathan in a company toilet stall, and bludgeons him to death with a Buddi hammer tool piece.

Eddie, Charles' most trusted colleague discovers Nathan's body being disposed in the tip outside, and calls the police. Charles realising his fate subdues to his ultimate desire, his jealousy of partner Jeff's life with children, and a wife. He takes a ride home with Jeff, and as the police close in, takes a Buddi woodcarver knife and stabs Jeff to death, stabbing both he and his wife Denise's two children off-screen, and in a struggle at the kitchen door with Denise, strangling her to death before he is gunned down by police.

The Chucky doll is left in a package with a man in the laneway behind the O'Dell property who comes to sell the Buddi prototype at a cheap price to pharmacy workers Karen Barclay and Maggie Peterson, which is gifted to Karen's son Andy for his 6th birthday.

The Buddi dolls are now a craze following the Chucky prototype, manufactured in high demand for the toy market. Buddi Chucky is however fitted with a more personalised behavioural cognition, based after Charles directly, and voiced by the late killer.

Maggie is killed the night of Andy's birthday while babysitting, being hung in the living room with an elaborate Buddi skipping rope noose. Her death is investigated by the officer responsible for Charles' death Detective Mike Norris, who also is a former romantic partner of Karen's, ultimately concluding it a suicide.

The Chucky doll targets Andy's high school student, apartment building neighbor Izzy, after in part witnessing Maggie's death, terrorising her the following night as a possible, unseen intruder. Chucky has Andy skip out on school to follow Eddie Caputo, who shows up to converse with Karen after Maggie's death, after tracking the selling of Chucky to her. Eddie who is staying in a nearby motel, is immolated by Chucky, resulting in Andy being brought in by Mike.

After they are temporarily cleared, Andy calls on the help of his school friends to stop Chucky, as he follows his neighbor Izzy and her friends to a high school party. There he murders party-goer Anthony with a rock in the garden, Izzy's friend Sierra and her boyfriend Gavin, drowning Gavin in the house's pool and then adding a loose wire to electrocute Sierra.

Andy is taken into the children's psych ward following, where Chucky follows, murdering his doctor with a medical saw. Mike is attacked in his car by Chucky as he arrives following Karen, Izzy and her accompanying friends Maya and Will are separated in a lock down, Will being fatally stabbed and as Maya comes to his aid perishing in an explosion.

A final confrontation happens as Andy returns to the family apartment with Izzy. As Chucky overcomes Norris and almost kills Karen, Andy and Izzy succeed in destroying the doll with the fireplace and fireplace pokers.
