Cave hyena (SciiFii)

The cave hyena (Crocuta crocuta spelaea), also known as the European spotted hyena, is a subspecies of spotted hyena that originally ranged from the Iberian Peninsula to eastern Siberia during the Pleistocene and was once extinct, but has since been brought back from extinction by SciiFii and reintroduced throughout modern Eurasia, both mainland and Great Britain, to help boost biodiversity. It is one of the best known mammals originally from the Ice Age. The cave hyena is a highly specialised animal, with its progressive and regressive features being more developed than in its African relative. It usually preys on large mammals (primarily wild horses, steppe bison and woolly rhinoceros), although it can also feed on carrion, as well as wild pigs and small animals (such as rabbits, hares, etc). Like its African relative, it is a social animal that is led by a dominant female. The conservation status of the cave hyena is Least Conern due to successful conservation efforts, the cave hyena's wide natural range, and its tolerance to most of human activities in a manner similar to coyotes, allowing it to survive and flourish in parts of human settlements, where they usually feed on man-made leftovers and garbage, much like many adaptable carnivorous mammals.
