Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a 2022 animated Canadian/American action film directed and executive produced by Jesse Spade and written by Spade and Brian Bloom. Produced by Activision, Digic Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures, it is the third Call of Duty film and the first feature length Call of Duty film to be made. The film directly follows the events of the 2019 reboot Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and ignores the narratives introduced in the SpecOps, Multiplayer, and Warzone modes, and instead picks up where the Campaign left off when Khaled Al-Asad is shown to have invaded Verdansk. The film features an ensemble cast featuring Barry Sloane, Elliot Knight, Neil Ellice, Samuel Roukin, Alexandra LeMosle, Alain Mesa, Bayardo De Murguia, Michael Benyaer, Glenn Morshower, Bruce Greenwood, Cliff Curtis, LaMonica Garrett, Orlando Bloom, Rya Kihlstedt, Warren Kole, Claudie Doumit and Stefan Kapičić. The film follows Task Force 141 as they deal with Al-Qatala-Aljahdid's new leader Khaled Al-Asad, who has turned the organization into a formidable threat and occupies Verdansk, the capital city of Kastovia.

The film was released on December 16th, 2022. It is the fifth film directed by Jesse Spade and the third he had written, and his first collaboration with Brian Bloom. It is also Jesse Spade's first production with Sony Pictures, Digic Pictures and Activision, that came to fruition after Spade expressed interest in a Call of Duty film. Activision has stated that the film is not an adaption of the 2022 video game of the same name, which released two months prior and is considered to be standalone.

Synopsis[]

Sometime after rogue Russian General Roman Barkov and his forces were stopped by the efforts of John Price and Kate Laswell, the country of Kastovia falls under a nation-wide invasion undertaken by Al-Qatala-Aljahdid under the command of Khaled Al-Asad, a former Al-Qatala lieutenant, and occupies Verdansk and executes Kastovian president Yasir Al-Fulani on national television, which is also broadcasted internationally. Knowing the response of the West and Russia, Al-Asad gives a warning to both the United States and Russia to not attempt removing his influence. However, after a Russian black operation goes wrong, an American ballistic missile strikes Austin, Texas, killing the US Vice President and Al-Asad warns that if Russia attempts to attack again, they'll destroy the White House. In response, the United States mobilizes the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company to invade Kastovia and remove Al-Asad from power. Meanwhile, Kate Laswell contacts and tasks John Price and Task Force 141 to figure out how Al-Asad got his hands on an American ballistic missile and how he was able to get that close to the US. Their investigation leads them to the United Republic of Adal as Al-Qatala-Aljahdid was leading an incursion to annex the country and a lead takes them to Mexico with the Las Almas Cartel as prime suspects.
