Bayonetta is a Japanese film released in Japanese theaters on October 29 2011 and was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2010. It is a film adaptation of the first game, Bayonetta, and the animated movie, Bayonetta - Bloody Fate, belonging to SEGA. The film was directed and scripted by Fuminori Kizaki based on a story based on a screenplay written by Mitsutaka Hirota.

Plot[]

Main[]

Bayonetta is the last remaining descendant of the ancient clan of the Witches of Umbra, who has no memory of her own youth. Freed from a coffin at the bottom of a lake, she immediately finds herself catapulted into the millennial clash between angels and demons, in which the part of the bad guys seems to be covered by the former. In an attempt to recover her memory, Bayonetta thus sets out on the trail of a gem, known as the Right Eye, belonging to a set called the Eyes of the World.

Her search leads her to Vigrid, a city on the French coast with strong religious tendencies. Making her way through throngs of angels, Bayonetta encounters individuals linked to her past, such as Luka Redgrave, an assault journalist who holds Bayonetta responsible for her father's death shortly after freeing her from her coffin, the witch of Umbra Jeanne, and a little girl. named Cereza, who considers Bayonetta to be her mother. Battling hordes of angels, Bayonetta uncovers the truth about herself, the witches of Chade and the Sages of Lumen, respectively holders of the powers of darkness and light.

Furthermore, she discovers that she was born from the forbidden relationship between a witch and one of the last remaining of the Sages of Lumen, Father Balder, the orchestrator of everything. Bayonetta thus discovers that she is a key element in Balder's plan for the resurrection of the Creator, Jubileus, who is the bearer of the Left Eye, and that Cereza is, in fact, the same Bayonetta as a child, kidnapped by her time for cause the eye to awaken.

With the help of Jeanne, who survived the final battle with Bayonetta, the two witches manage to defeat Jubileus, with only half of her real power. A few months later, although believed dead by all, Bayonetta and Jeanne both survived and continue their fight against the angels. Bayonetta then takes some rosemary brought by Luka which, according to her, is suitable for that moment, as (as Luka said in the middle of the game) it is the aroma of memory.

Changes Videogame/Animated Movie[]

  • The film has locations from the game such as the Crescent Valley and the Isla Del Sol, but certain events happen in other locations.
  • The live-action film, like the animated one, contains an opening similar to the Records Of Time section of the game, which explains events up to the present day in the form of storytelling and images in the manner of a stained glass window.
  • The Vestibule is located inside a cemetery, just like in Bayonetta. He departs from the appearance of Luka, who follows a clue about a suicide aboard the Valkyrie and seeks to obtain photographs of Bayonetta's struggle and trail of destruction.
  • As in the animated film, the Scarborough Fairs are not Bayonetta's starting weapons. He first wields Elfin Knight, a set of four pistols using the design of the fifth concept design from Scarborough Fair. These weapons are later destroyed in a battle with Jeanne and Bayonetta later receives Scarborough Fair. Over the course of the film, Bayonetta uses more weapons on her enemies rather than just her guns. Use Shuraba, an Onyx Rose and Lieutenant Colonel Kilgores, all of whom can be seen in the Gates of Hell after Bayonetta lost Elfin Knight along with others in the game such as Sai Fung and Kulshedra.
  • In the first scene at the Gates of Hell, Enzo is officially declared to be an undertaker and is exploiting mass suicide to make ridiculous profits. She comments that Bayonetta is unable to remember her own name despite being able to remember the details of their arrangement with her having attended one of the funerals for information. Rodin states that her name is Bayonetta, but Enzo immediately reminds him that it is the name that was given to her by Rodin (which in the video game had never been explicitly stated).
  • Mention is made of the Golden LPs and Rodin modeling Bayonetta's weapons with the demons captured by Inferno after Bayonetta breaks the Elfin Knight. It is assumed that the Elfin Knight were created from scratch using other materials, while all other weapons that Rodin are made by demons.
  • There are scenes where Balder talks about his plans with Jeanne on Isla Del Sol.
  • The angels have all shown that they are capable of speaking only pure Enochian.
  • Bayonetta and Jeanne's first battle takes place during Bayonetta's train ride to Vigrid.
  • On Route 666, Bayonetta destroys an Irenic on her motorcycle by summoning Scolopendra while in an underground tunnel and later arrives at an airport where she does a brief Temperantia job through the summoning of Hekatoncheir. Luka ends up using her car on the highway rather than taking a vehicle from the guards on the bridge and follows her rather than the other way around. Luka and Cereza reach Bayonetta and Luka uses Cereza's glasses to see the angels for the first time.
  • After Bayonetta takes care of an Inspired, the trio gathers on a helicopter and leaves. The Valkyrie transport plane makes an appearance, but nothing special happens. Instead, the helicopter used by the trio is their only means of transportation to Isla Del Sol and the Ithavoll Tower. Here, Bayonetta refers to Luka by her real name and asks him to take them there. Thinking she's just saying it to mess it up, she insists she stop teasing and stay with the Cheshire. As they approach, Jeanne triggers a missile and launches it at their helicopter. Although their transport is destroyed, Luka and Cereza are shown rescued by a magical shield and secured in the city while Bayonetta lands elsewhere.
  • The second and final battle with Jeanne takes place both in the human world and in Heaven. The two witches are transported there in the middle of the fight. Through their battle, Jeanne reveals the truth about their past as friends and also about Bayonetta's role as the Left Eye that the shadow witches were tasked with protecting. He begs her to stop Balder and shoots Bayonetta to get away before Balder's magic causes an explosion that supposedly kills her.
  • After Luka falls from Balder's office, Bayonetta threatens to shoot Balder for killing her mother, but the powers of the left eye awaken in her before she can pull the trigger. Both eyes are used to awaken Jubileus.
  • Jeanne comes to Bayonetta's rescue in her Umbrian suit like in the game, but she doesn't save Bayonetta directly. She opens Jubileus's eyes wide and urges Bayonetta to remember what Rosa told her before she died. It is revealed that Balder personally witnessed the destruction of the Umbra witches during the witch hunt and Rosa pleaded with Bayonetta in her last moments to fulfill a request: "save" her father from the madness that had gripped his soul from being exiled from the his clan. Using Rosa's lipstick as a reminder, Bayonetta uses her power to free herself from Jubileus's eye, burning the left half of the goddess's body.
  • The witches summon Queen Sheba, culminating in a divine confrontation that causes them to fight and fly across the solar system. Bayonetta uses her magic to perform a Torture Attack on Jubileus, providing Sheba with a whip to bind her to the wooden horse. While Jeanne uses her powers to give Sheba a giant hell gun, Bayonetta claims she prefers the chaos of this universe to the ideal utopia Balder envisions. Before Balder is killed, a vision of Rosa appears to him declaring that she still loves him as Jeanne gives the command to Sheba to shoot and disintegrate Jubileus into powder. Due to the fact that Jubileus was not summoned from a statue, the pair of witches do not have to break the pieces as they fall to Earth.
  • A few months later, as they never reappeared, Rodin, Enzo, Luka and Cereza (still up to now compared to the video game), prepare to have a funeral, but are attacked by a handful of angels. At that moment the nun, who was directing the consecration of the coffin, reveals that she is Jeanna and Bayonetta rises from the coffin. Excited, and even shocked, the group helps the two witches. After the fight Luka reminds Bayonetta that the joke just made was not funny (which the witch doesn't care about) and asks if she can publish her book on Saggi Lumen e Streghe Umbra, in memory of her father. Eventually, Cereza is brought back to the past by Bayonetta (in the same way as in the game).
