The sixth season of Bates Motel premiered on March 16, 2020, and concluded on May 18, 2020. The season consisted of 10 episodes. The season picks up years following the fifth season and loosely adapts the events of Robert Bloch's sequel novel Psycho II.


Picking up several years following the finale of season 5, Dylan and Emma are living life as a stable happy couple despite the horrors faced at the Bates Motel with Dylan's unstable brother Norman. However when a new spree of killings occur at the town of White Pine Bay connecting back to the family run Bates Motel, Dylan finds himself revisiting his dark past in order to uncover who is mimicking his late brother's crimes.

In June 2019, it was confirmed that Max Thieriot and Olivia Cooke would be reprising their roles as Dylan Massett and Emma Decody respectively. That same month, it was also confirmed that Brooke Smith would be reprising her role as Sheriff Jane Greene from season 5, and that she would be featured as a regular character.

Despite initial claims, it was confirmed that Freddie Highmore would be appearing as Norman Bates in some capacity.
