The film was teatrically released on December 12th, 2014, and was screened into selected audiences at Cannes and New York Film Festivals to phenomenal praise.

The film worked as a both critical, commercial and box office success, generally praised for it's strong story, characters, realism and acting.

Robert Downey, Jr. was awarded with his first Oscar for Best Lead Actor, being his third nomination. The film itself was awarded with many more nominations.

Chloe Grace Moretz was awarded with her first Oscar nomination, but losing out to Vera Farmiga in Truce. Tony Todd was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Jodie Foster was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. The film itself was awarded for Best Picture.

The film is set in Ohio witch served as the principal location for filming. Filming also took place in Chicago and Manhattan.


Frank Coleman (Robert Downey, Jr.) is a security guard and non-professional book writer at Penitentiary Oregon Gate at Ohio.

Frank keeps an unstable relationship with his cancer-bound wife Edith (Jodie Foster) and adopted daughter Mary (Chloe Grace Moretz).

At the same time, back in Oregon Gate, Frank is dealing with his guard companions Charles Botnick (Josh Brolin), Harry Short (Elijah Wood) and extremely racist and sadist Donald Smith (Jim Carrey).

At the same day, a tall man named Quentin Jackson, Jr. (Tony Todd) is arrested and sent to Oregon Gate, accused of killing a priest.

Interviewed by the facilty Psychiatric , Dr. Bill Kafka (Robert Englund), Quentin declares that he is innocent

and is show to be a kind, timid and demented man, as analyzed by Kafka.

Frank shows suspicion about Quentin's accusation, and decides to further investigate.

Back into his house, Frank have a discussion with Mary about Edith, with Mary accusing Frank on Edith's sickness.

Frank has a usual breakdown and hits Mary just to be sent to a police department.

Frank's adoptive mother, Ashley (Maggie Smith) arrives in the scene and frees Frank by paying.

After leaving, Ashley warns that one time she would not have the capacity to save Frank from his errors.

In Oregon Gate, Quentin is advised by Donald that he will end up dead as all the other prisoners, justifying there is no reason for murderers like him stay alive.

In response, Quentin says he is watched by God, and tells just he needs to known the truth about his actions.

Hearing this, Donald begins to brutally beat Quentin, who doesn't show any signs of pain.

The next day, Ernie, Harry's pet parrot, dies by unknown circunstances.

Quentin reveals he can help if the guards let him., to witch Frank relutanctly agrees.

Quentin miracously ressurects Ernie, with Harry kindly thanking him.

Donald becames angry, and reveals that Quentin is trying to make himself a good person to them.



Production for Awaiting For Awaiting For a Miracle began very early in 2013 following the commercial success of Cuáron's Gravity, Alfonso stated he would like to pursue ways of innovating his films more.
