The Arafura fibrous greensponge hatal (scientific name: Hata hata hata) is the nominate subspecies of the type species (Hata hata) of the type genus (Hata) of the hatal family (Hataceae). Like with all greensponge hatals, the hates of Arafura fibrous greensponge hatals are called greensponge. The Arafura fibrous greensponge hatal is a vulnerable alga with a decreasing population which lives in the Arafura Sea in between New Guinea and Australia, hence the name. There is 1 other subspecies of fibrous greensponge, that being the Timorese fibrous greensponge hatal (Hata hata timor), named so due to inhabiting the Timorese Sea.
