The 46th Earth King was the forty-sixteenth ruler of the Land of Earth during the War of Chin the Conqueror. He was hated and unpopular among his people duo to his bad management which led to thousands of deaths by famine and numerous revolts against his leadership, such as the Peasant Uprising of Ba Sing Se.
Biography[]
The 46th Earth King ruled the Land of Earth 250 years before the First Hundred Year War. Imperilous and out of touch with the lives of the common men and women of his nation, the Earth King was widely unpopular and hated by his people, and his reign was marked by numerous challenges to his rule that shaped the Land of Earth's government. The most serious of them was the rebellion led by Chin the Conqueror, a warlord from the Land of Rice Fields. Chin was easily able to conquer the kingdom, except for Ba Sing Se and the Kyoshi peninsula; the conflict would only end when Kyoshi, the Avatar of the Nine-Tails, killed him.
The government's inability to deal with Chin's rebellion caused countless of repercussions, leading to massive losses to the Land of Earth that led its citizens to realize that the monarchy was outdated and did not support the interests of the people. This belief led to a peasant uprising in Ba Sing Se, with thousands of peasants storming the city's Upper Ring and destroying anything that represented the "old government". They then surrounded the Earth King's palace and demanded him to be removed from his position.
Realizing his inability to deal with the revolt, the Earth King summoned Kyoshi to his court, ordering her to put the population in their place. Kyoshi refused, saying that he should listen to his people. Outraged by her audacity, the Earth King ordered her execution, but she killed all of his guards. Powerless against Kyoshi, the Earth King complied, finding no other choice but to give up his power and naming a Grand Secretariat as the new ruler of the Land of Earth. In return, the Secretariat would protect the nation's cultural heritage and settlements with the help of Ishikawa, the First Tsuchikage, by founding the hidden village of Iwagakure.
