D.B Russell and Nick Stokes are the only to surive the shooting, Nick suffering from some minor brain damage and a concussion and Russell acomatose and in critical condition.

Because of this tragic turn of events remaining CSI Greg Sanders and officer Jim Brass are forced to call upon the original CSI team to assemble and take the case.

Following their closal of the CSI forensic team shooting the original forensic squad decide to stick around and fill the empty slots of the urgently needed CSI's re-aligning with Greg. They are however informed by Brass that the four of them alone does not fit the board's desired criteria and they called upon to recruit some young, incredibly talented, intelligent individuals who match each one in their respective fields and including the passed Warrick Brown to fill up the new team.

Grissom struggles with the assigned task as a new large full group case is called for the respective CSI's, though ultimately they settle with a motley bunch of young eccentrics and intellectuals: Catherine with a young runaway turned unviersity graduate blood splatter analysis extraordinaire Jezebel Rogers, Sanders on a former college roommate and local genius Lyle Federson, the shooken Stokes on a homosexual scientist and master of perception Evan Ross and Sidle on tomboy beauty Lillian Kovaks an expert in audio and visual analysis.

Grissom finally finishes his task with finding a former street punk and delinquet turned university graduate and shoe-print/tyre tread analysist genius Russell Fitzpatrick and the group are then put together on an all team case of the murder of a group of young random women, all gathered together in an underground cult shrine and brutally slain by different sacrificial means.
